Nowadays, both parents are so busy managing work and home chores they don’t have enough time to spend with their kids. This can make the child feel lonely. If you don’t want it to happen to your little one, pick one of these 6 DIY crafts to do with your kids… maybe on weekends.

  1. Playdough

Let’s accept it: playdough never gets old. Plus, it is beneficial for your little ones as it helps them develop muscle strength and boosts their creativity.

You can either buy a playdough set from the store or make one at home. The latter option may cost you some time but will give you a dough softer than what is available in the markets.

If you don’t know how to make one at home, follow the steps. Before that, ensure you have flour, oil, salt, tartar cream, water, and food coloring in your home.

Steps:

  • Pour 2 cups of flour into a bowl and add half a cup of salt.
  • Mix them with two tablespoons of tartar cream and then add oil.
  • Then pour boiling water on the dough and mix them again.
  • After it cools off, separate the dough into equal pieces. (If you want more than one dough)
  • Roll them up into balls and punch every ball’s middle portion.
  • Put the food color and knead it until the color is fully mixed.
  • If you want to add any essential oil, go for it.
  • Let your kid shape it into different things.
  1. Flower crown

There will be hardly any kid who doesn’t love crowns. Flower crowns are bound to bring a smile to your child’s face, especially if he or she participates in the making process.

If you intend to keep the flower crown for a long time, use fake flowers, and if you don’t, you can use the real ones, also. You need a wire, scissors, floral twine, flowers, and floral tape to make a flower crown.

Steps:

  • First, measure your kid’s head and then cut the wire. Be sure to keep the wire 2inchs extra longer than the actual size of the head.
  • Twist the ends together to create a circle.
  • Gather the flowers and wrap them using floral twine.
  • Repeat until the circle is fully covered and use floral tapes to attach bundles. Now, the floral crown is ready.
  1. Art using colored salt

Painting is a great way to soothe the mind and express inner creativity. But this time, instead of using a drawing book or drawing pencils, use colored salt and let the floor be your child’s canvas.

This is a great way to bond with your kid. Plus, you only need salt, food color, and chalk.

Steps:

  • Mix the food color with the salt and wait until it dries.
  • Create an outline using chalk.
  • Let your kid fill it with colored salt.
  1. Ribbon wands

Have you ever seen kids moving around the house with ribbon wands? It looks really cute. You can make one with your child and shoot a video with them. Trust me; you will cherish the memory forever.

The things you need to make ribbon wands are a wooden dowel, colorful ribbons, scissors, and hot glue.

Steps:

  • Ask your child how lengthy a stand they want, and then cut the dowel according to their preference.
  • Cut their favorite colored ribbons. Make sure every ribbon is of the same size.
  • Tie one end to the dowel and use hot glue to secure them.
  • Give it some time to dry off, and then the ribbon is ready.
  1. Air freshener

Do you want to fill your home with your little one’s crafts? If so, there is nothing better than DIY air fresheners. All you need is cardboard, colorful printed papers, glue, a pencil, essential oil, and scissors.

Steps:

  • First, let your kid draw something on the cardboard, and then you need to cut them out.
  • Glue the colorful printed papers on top and bottom of every piece.
  • After it dries, soak it in the essential oil.
  • Use threads to hang them.

Over to you…

Now that you know the steps go, pick a few of them and indulge in them with your little one. However, make sure to be careful around sharp objects like scissors.
