Whilst it’s easy to dismiss the bathroom as just being a functional space that suffers with damp, it doesn’t have to be so. Bathrooms can be customised and redecorated just as easily as any other room in the house. With a few simple steps, you can transform your bathroom into a space fit for a king.

Countertops: No Longer Just Functional

Have you been toying with the idea of bathroom remodeling for a while? Many people just stick with the same old bathroom countertops that were there when they moved in. But if you’re looking for a quick way to remodel your bathroom, updating the countertops can change the whole appearance with just one step. Rather than plain old white, which easily shows up the dirt, there are many other options available. Quartz is a great choice, as it is stain-resistant, as well as more durable than granite. There are many different options for colours, such as black, beige, and even rose. If quartz is not to your taste, then granite has a lot to offer your bathroom as well. Each granite worktop is unique, as the patterns and whirls in the stone are as unique as someone’s signature. You never need to worry about granite losing its shine, as a quick wipe-down with warm water is all that is needed to keep it clean and shiny. Whilst granite countertops can be rather steeply priced, they are so durable  and low-maintenance that you’ll never need to replace them.

Lighting

For too many years, I left my bathroom light bulbs bare. I thought they were just there to do a job, and I didn’t want any lampshades to be damaged by the damp. How wrong could I have been? A new lampshade can dramatically alter the look of the room for the better. Glass lampshades are a great place to start with this. They won’t get damaged by steam, and are fantastically easy to wipe down if they become dirty, unlike a standard fabric lampshade. Whilst it’s easy to think of glass lampshades as plain, there are hundreds of different styles available to you: from minimalistic black and white, to bold, powerful colours, and even nautical designs. Choosing the right lampshade can do wonders for a bathroom: even down to changing the quality of the light, to best show off your new stone countertops.

If you’re going for opulence, then you could even try a chandelier-style lamp shade. These can be very inexpensive, whilst still screaming of luxury.

Colour Scheme

Last of all, it is important to choose a colour scheme that best shows off the hardware that you have. For example, if you have selected pale beige or grey worktops, then it would be best to set them off with darker walls, to avoid the whole room from appearing washed out. It is better to use satin or semi-gloss in your bathroom, as these types of paint are easy to clean, and the most stain resistant.
