Grilling burgers is a staple for summer. The season would not be complete without burgers sizzling on the grill. I found a new recipe that made burgers even better. Hamburgers that are stuffed with cheese and onion. To make that sound even better, how about a sauce that tastes like the “Big-Mac” sauce to go with it? Yes, please.
This recipe was featured on the Dr. Oz show and I adapted it from Yummly. This combination will satisfy your fast-food craving with a much healthier alternative.
Just make the sauce, the stuffed burgers if you want or both to really go all the way!
Stuffed burger ingredients: Ground beef, shredded cheese, and onion.
Shape 1-1/2 lbs. of ground chuck into eight 3-oz. portions on waxed paper. Press each portion into a 4-in. patty using a fork
Top four of the patties with an onion slice and shredded cheese. Cover with remaining patties, using waxed paper to help position the patty on top.
Seal edges with a fork. Grill to desired doneness.
While burgers are grilling, make the sauce.
Ingredients: Low-fat mayonnaise, Low-fat French dressing, Sweet pickle relish, Minced onion, White vinegar, and salt.
In a small bowl make the sauce by whisking mayonnaise, dressing, relish, vinegar, onion and a dash of salt together.
Taste and adjust if needed to your liking by adding more dressing, relish or onion.
Once burgers are done, top with homemade sauce, a slice of American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickle and any other condiments you wish to use. (This is the method I used because the bottom version was way too much for me!)
If you want the “official Big-Mac” way of assembling the burger, slather half the sauce over one of the bottom buns, sprinkle with half the onion, top with shredded lettuce, a burger patty, pickles then another bottom bun; repeat and finish with the top bun. (As seen in 1st picture at the top of the page.)
Look at the inside of that burger..stuffed with cheese and onion. Delicious!!!!
