It’s never too late to develop a healthy lifestyle. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is likely to increase your life expectancy and, more importantly, your quality of life. It may surprise you to discover that longevity is not controlled by your genes, there are many things you can do to improve the length and quality of your life. The most important of these is to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

You may be wondering how you should do this but, it’s not as difficult as you think. There are just 4 easy steps you should start taking today.

  1. Food & Drink

They say you are what you eat. In other words, eat good food and you’ll stay healthy. This is largely true.

Of course, the question is what counts as good food? The best approach to adopt is to move away from processed foods and stick to whole foods. This will help to ensure you’re eating the good stuff and you’ll feel the benefits.

But, it’s not just-food. You also need to drink to stay alive. While alcohol is likely to have a negative effect in large quantities, most studies maintain that up to a glass a day should help your health.

Alongside this, you should consider drinking green tea and getting a water filter. The water that comes out of your tap has been treated, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe!

The water can pick up contaminants between the treatment plant and your home because it goes through miles of pipes. You also need to consider the chemicals that the treatment plant has added, especially chlorine.

A water filter removes bacteria, debris, and chemicals like chlorine. The water will taste better and be purer, that’s better for your health.

If you are looking for water filters then start here!

2. Exercise – Physical & Mental

Complementing your new food regime you’re going to want to start to exercise. Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate exercise, or 120 high-intensity exercise, a week.

That’s just 30 minutes a day and you can choose anything that gets your body moving. Simply choose something you enjoy doing and you’ll find your physical health starts to improve.

It’s also important to stimulate your mind. The more active it is the better for your brain cells. Puzzles, crosswords, learning new skills; all of these things keep your mind functioning normally and help you stay healthy as well as potentially living longer.

3. Sleep

Sleep is often underestimated but it’s when your body recovers, fights illnesses, and processes the experiences of the day. It’s essential to get enough sleep every night to maintain your health. The average adult should aim for between 6-8 hours to offer the most benefits for your health.

4. Medical Help

Finally, making the above changes can mean pushing your body in ways that you’ve not done before. That and your increasing years can cause changes or health concerns.

Perhaps the greatest step you can take to building a healthy lifestyle is committing to seeing a medical professional whenever something is wrong. Getting early diagnosis and treatment is vital to your ongoing health and quality of life!
