While organizing comes easily to some people, to others it can be downright frustrating. It can feel like you’re playing a game of Tetris on level Hard.

We’ve put together some simple tips that will help you get your bathroom looking and functioning at its best. Continue reading this article to learn what you need to know to give your bathroom an organization makeover.

The 411 on Bathroom Organization

If you’ve gone through plumbing repair and your bathroom is in a state of upheaval, this is a great time to get working on your organization.

Get Rid of Things You Don’t Need

When you see an amazing bathroom — you know it. There are a lot of different styles and decor that you might find appealing but we all find well-organized bathrooms appealing.

One of the musts, when you’re getting organized, is getting rid of things you don’t need.

If you have old makeup, multiples of the same product, random items like pens, pencils, sheets of papers, rubber bands and other things — get rid of them.

Another thing that you don’t need is all those cords. Well, maybe you need the cords but you don’t need to see them. You can hide the cords using creative ideas so your bathroom doesn’t look cluttered with cords.

You also don’t need grime. Get everything out of your bathroom and get rid of grime that is hiding behind the clutter.

A Place for Everything & Everything in Its Place

You’ll do well to remember what goes where so you can keep things organized. Even if you know where things go — if you aren’t putting them there, it isn’t doing much good now, is it?

1. Determine What You’ll Use Daily

There are things we use on a daily basis like hand soaps, hairbrushes, hairdryers and more. Go through all of your things and see what you use on a daily basis and put them where you can get to them easily.

Even if you use things on a daily basis, they don’t have to go out in the open where everyone can see them. You might put them in an easy to access cabinet where you can close the door and no one will be the wiser.

2. Place Items You’ll Rarely Use in Hard to Reach Places

If you can’t bear to get rid of something but you rarely use it, you can put it in the hard to reach places. You might put these things where you have to stoop over to get them or maybe you need a step ladder to get to them.

3. Sort Items on the Countertop

Having too much on your countertop makes your whole bathroom look like it’s out of order. Sort the items on the countertop and figure out whether they are daily use items or if they’ve been there for a long time not being touched and they can go in the rarely-used storage.

4. Move on to the Drawers

The drawers might be the most terrifying place you have to organize because we just throw everything in there and hope for the best.

Bite the bullet and get rid of things you don’t need in the drawers. You might also want to get some drawer organizers if you don’t want everything to mix together into a jumbled mess.

5. Invest in a Hanging Shower Caddy

Unless your shower has a side storage option where you can put all your soaps, shampoos and other shower essentials a shower caddy is a must. Since the shower caddy is hanging, it won’t take up shower space or make the shower seem smaller.

6. Maximize Cabinet Space

Cabinets aren’t used to their full potential in almost every case. Many times the shelves are positioned at odd heights where you aren’t able to use the space.

If your shelves aren’t serving you, you can easily add another shelf which will give you more space to put things. If you find it too difficult to change out the shelving, you can put in some hanging space with a tension rod.

Is your shelving deep? Put some sliding baskets on the shelves so you can grab them and pull them forward. Or you might find a lazy Susan helpful.

7. Buy Hanging Organizers for Behind Doors

Using the space behind your doors to organize your shoes or your jewelry is a great way to get things out of your drawers or out of your closet.

Your cabinet doors or the back of your bathroom door is usually a great candidate for back of door hanging.

Bonus Tips

Here are a few bonus tips to help you keep your bathroom clean and clear from clutter.

  • Buy less of items you find expired
  • Use your toiletries before buying new ones. One backup bottle is enough
  • Dispose of outdated prescriptions when you get your new ones
  • Put your cleaning supplies where they are easy to reach

Part of staying clean is keeping everything organized so don’t get off track or you can go back to where you started quickly.
