When it comes to styling your home, ensuring that each area flows together is extremely important. A cohesive look is not only aesthetically pleasing but can make the entire space look cleaner, brighter, and bigger than it actually is.

Want to get started?

Below we are going to go over a few different tips and tricks to help you create a cohesive design throughout your home.

Choose and stick to a color palette.

One of the easiest ways to create a cohesive environment is to use color, so try and select a palette that you can easily bring into all the different areas of your home. A few different tips to help you decide include:

– Basing your color on your most prominent element. E.g., a rug.

– Paying attention to lighting and how color might affect it.

– Using a color wheel to see what works well and what doesn’t.

– Contrasting warm and cool tones.

Decide upon a set style.

After deciding upon what color palette you will use, you need to think about your set style. From industrial to modern, bohemian and minimalist, there is a wide range of different options to choose from. If you’re not sure where to get started, take a look at the existing design of your home. If it’s older, you may want to try something more traditional.

Purchase a furniture package or mix it intentionally.

Having all the same furniture in your home can look atheistically pleasing. However, it’s not always practical. Furniture packages can be expensive, and you may already have some existing items already.

Instead, aim to mix your pieces intentionally, but still try and choose things that are either the same style or color. You might also consider purchasing the same internal doors to create another element of cohesiveness.

Match patterns and textiles.

If you don’t want to worry about heavy furniture, another element that can be added easily into each space is a particular pattern or textile. For example, rugs, cushions, and curtains can all be used in each area of your home. You might even think about creating unique accent walls with similar designs. Wallpaper and wall stickers can work wonders.

Add greenery.

Indoor plants are the perfect addition to not only brighten up your home but tie everything together. If you haven’t already, invest in a few that require easy maintenance. You would be amazed at how they can breathe new life into the space, and they even come with many added health benefits. It’s a win-win.

Upgrade your cabinet handles.

Finally, the last tip to create a cohesive design throughout your home is to upgrade all of your cabinet handles. By switching them out to either a unique or modern design, every piece of your furniture will tie together seamlessly. If you’re after something different, however, you might try something creative too. There are plenty of DIY designs to try out, including using rope, branches, and even old toys.
