2020 is the start of a New Year. A time for getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. A time for thinking about upcoming goals and aspirations, and how to achieve them. Maybe you want to take a more positive approach to your health and wellbeing, improve your finances, excel in your career or spend more time with family and friends. In honour of the New Year, we’ve put together a New Year’s Resolution bingo card – play along and see how many of these you can tick off. They may not even be your personal aims, but ones you overhear people discussing on the commute to work.
Lose weight/exercise more
After the indulgence of the festive season and not just the Christmas Day dinner, most of us look to go back to our regular eating and exercise habits. They say that summer bodies are made in winter and it’s in the New Year that gym membership subscriptions appear to rise dramatically. Of course, you don’t need to go to a gym and instead, go for walks or work out in the comfort of your own living room.
Learn a new skill/hobby
It could be anything. Maybe you want to test yourself and learn a new language, or you want to be more creative and take up painting. It could be that you’re bored of convenience foods and want to learn how to cook, or want to pursue a new leisure activity like playing a Bingo game online. The list is endless, but choose something you enjoy, or else it will feel like a chore, and make sure you dedicate time to your newfound love.
Spend more time on personal wellbeing
Personal wellbeing is a hot topic and we are all guilty of neglecting ourselves. Take time to look after yourself, whether that’s indulging in your favourite pastime, unwinding after a hard day at work, or relaxing your mind before bedtime. Gratitude diaries are a great way to look at the positives of each day and list the things you are thankful for or that have impacted your day. It may be as simple as ‘laughed with a colleague’ or ‘complimented a stranger’ but it will make you feel better.
As the adage goes, ‘knowledge is power’, and you can never learn too much. Maybe you wish to read more books on your chosen field or expertise, or prefer sinking into some non-fiction easy-reading. We’ve all seen those ‘100-book challenge’ lists on the internet, but in a year, it’s an impossible target – well, it might be doable but you won’t enjoy every single one of those novels. Go for something more achievable, a book a week or a month instead.
Save more/spend less
Christmas is a time for giving and indulgence, and we all feel a hit after the New Year when it comes to paying off our credit cards. Most of us probably wish we could save more but if you’re serious about it, it’s best to have a specific target in mind or something tangible to save for. It could be a new car, a holiday or just something to treat yourself or a loved one to. Be realistic and keep a track of your goal every month – it will make it more attainable.
