Must-Do Spring Checklist

Spring is a great time to check the health of your home and make repairs. This is also a great time to tackle any outdoor projects that you’ve been waiting to do. We are going to go through a list of things that need to be done.

Observe

Walk around the perimeter of your yard and home and look for things that need to be repaired.

Starting with your foundation, look for cracks. If you notice anything that seems different, make a note. Problems with your foundation can compound quickly causing the repair expense to go up. Call a foundation repair company if you are unsure of what to look for.

Damage or cracks in the caulking around a window can be costly. That caulking helps keep the weather out and helps to control the interior temperature. Leaks can cause your heating and cooling bill to go up.

Check your siding and brick for any flaws and imperfections. This is another area where repairing it early can save you money.

For your roof, it is best to call a roofing company. They will inspect your whole roof looking for small problems, like a lifted or damaged shingle. These small problems can turn into huge problems if not taken care of early.

Correct

Now that you have your repair list, decide your skill level for making those repairs. You may be able to repair caulking around your home because it’s fairly simple. Foundation and roof repair are more difficult, so its best to have someone who has experience to do the repairs. Remember, don’t put off repairs because they can be costly if you do.

Improve

After you’ve made necessary repairs, it’s time to work on the appearance and make improvements.

Just because your driveway isn’t cracked, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need improvement. Over time, your driveway will get a buildup of dirt and grime from the elements and your vehicle. Power washing it is a good way to revive it. This will make it look fresh again.

Landscaping can make or break the appearance of your home. Remove all weeds and plants that have died. Replace mulch or add mulch to give it a polished look. This is a good time to add new plants and bushes to your home for a little added beauty.

Garage floors can be damaged or stained from your mower, atv, or vehicle. Those can leak oil and other fluids onto your floor leaving behind ugly stains. Spring is a good time to work on the floor because it can be well ventilated. A little preventive floor maintenance goes a long way.

While the weather is nice, before it gets too hot, head outside and work on your home. Walk around your home looking for damage or ways to improve the appearance. Improvements to your home, like a clean driveway or fresh landscaping can increase the value of your home. Repairing damage that you find during this inspection can save a lot of money down the road.
