You may feel anxious or worried before taking a test when faced with a problem at work or before making a life-changing decision. Anxiety disorder symptoms can interfere with your relationships and everyday occasions such as work and school. The different types of anxiety disorder include:

Panic disorder

Panic disorder is a type of anxiety characterized by sudden episodes of intense fear that reach their peak within minutes. A panic attack can occur unexpectedly or be brought on by a trigger, such as an object or a situation you fear. When you have a panic attack, you may experience an accelerated heartbeat, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, and feelings of impending doom. If you have experienced a panic attack once, you may constantly worry about the next time it will happen, and you may actively try to avoid places, people, and situations that may trigger an attack. The worry about the next episode and the effort spent to prevent that causes significant problems in someone’s life.

Individuals who experience panic attacks are also more likely to develop agoraphobia. It is a type of anxiety that makes you avoid places that would trigger a panic attack, leaving you embarrassed or helpless. If you have agoraphobia, you may avoid using public transportation, being in open spaces, or being away from home alone.

Generalized anxiety disorder

People with generalized anxiety disorder display persistent and excessive worry over several things such as everyday events, work, personal health, and social interactions. The concern is usually out of proportion to the actual circumstance and challenging to control. If you have this type of anxiety, you may experience significant problems in your life, including work, school, and social interactions. A generalized anxiety disorder symptoms include restlessness, muscle tension, difficulties controlling feelings of worry, sleep problems, and difficulty concentrating.

Phobia related disorder

There are different types of particular phobias, including the fear of heights, blood, flying, receiving an injection, and specific animals such as spiders and lizards. Some phobias are expected, such as the fear of snakes. However, if you have a specific phobia, the fear is usually out of proportion to the actual danger, causing you to take active steps to avoid the feared object. You may also be overly worried about encountering the feared object or situation, and upon experiencing it, you get sudden, intense anxiety.

Social anxiety

Social anxiety, previously known as social phobia, causes a general intense fear of social situations. People with social anxiety may feel overwhelmed whenever they are in social places and constantly worry that their actions will embarrass them or be negatively evaluated by others. Because of this, they tend to avoid social places and performance situations. Social anxiety can manifest within the workplace, school, or other location with a vast gathering.
