Doing laundry is easily one of the most dreaded chores that we all unfortunately have to do. Whether it be folding or waiting for your dryer to be done, there’s an aspect of doing laundry that you unequivocally hate. Luckily, here is some advice on how to cut corners while doing laundry and in turn not waste so much time on this forsaken activity.
Table of Contents
1. Ironing is a thing of past
If you hate ironing, this is a hack that will bring a smile to your face and unwrinkled clothes to your wardrobe. Instead of wasting time on ironing your clothes, you can just throw a couple of ice cubes along with your dry, wrinkled clothes in your dryer. Leave it on for a couple of minutes and as the ice melts it will release steam that will make the wrinkles go away. It is important to note that this hack will only work on lighter fabrics, sadly.
2. Use a laundry service
A lot of people don’t know that there are some amazing laundry services out there. In addition to getting your clothes perfectly clean and folded, some laundry services will pick your dirty laundry up and deliver it clean and fresh right to your doorstep. If you’re in the New Jersey area, take advantage of the best wash and fold in Hoboken, called Laundrypal. They even have an app which makes it even more user friendly!
3. Chalk isn’t only for kids’ play
If you have children in the house, it is quite likely that you have some chalk lying around. Great! Now you can use that chalk in a much boring adult way. If you have some grease stains on your T-shirts, chalk will come in handy. Rub some of it on the stain and the powder from it will absorb the grease. This way the stain will come right off in the washing machine.
4. Collect dryer lint
Dryer lint is one of those annoying things that come with doing laundry. However, drying lint isn’t that useless, it can be repurposed. Collect your drying lint in an old tissue box. When the box is full you can compost the content or you can use the lint as a fire starter for your fireplace.
5. Pool noodle hacks
Pool noodles can be a perfect addition to your wardrobe. No, they’re not a fresh accessory trend, but they can come in quite handy if you’re not a fan of wrinkled clothes. Get a smaller pool noodle and cut it the size of the lower bar of your hanger and slip it through. This way you’ll get some additional padding on the hanger which is perfect for getting rid of that boring crease on your fancy trousers.
6. Wash brights with salt
We’ve all had our brights become pastels in the wash and the best way to stop this from happening is the following. Put a teaspoon of regular kitchen salt in the drum of your washer along with your clothing. Salt keeps the colouring of the fabric from fading. If you want your garments to stay colourful, another idea is to wash them inside-out.
7. Mesh bag is a must
If you keep losing your socks in the washing machine or in the dryer get a mesh bag. It is guaranteed to put an end to this annoyance. You can also use the mesh bag for other delicates, such as lingerie. However, don’t forget to wash your delicates on cool even when you’re using the mesh bag.
8. Salad spinner for hand washing
Hand washing clothes can be a tedious chore and in order to save time use the salad spinner. Not only will your clothes be perfectly washed, but you can also use the spinner to squeeze the excess water out as well.
