Cleaning and hygiene tips to help keep the COVID-19 virus out of your home

hygiene tips to help keep the COVID-19 virus

Throughout history, there have been pandemics, but these are usually things spoken about in history classes. The world is currently living through a pandemic, COVID-19, how it is dealt with will be part of those history lessons for future generations.

At this stage, without a proven vaccine, the key to beating this infection is to maintain proper hygiene standards at all times. The good news is that this is something we can all do and, with a few simple steps, you can keep the virus out of your home. That should allow you to relax in your own home.

Here’s how to keep the COVID-19 virus out of your home:

Wash Your Hands

The first thing you should do when entering your home is to use either hand sanitizer or wash your hands. This will eliminate the virus, if you have it on you.

You also need to wash your hands regularly at home, especially before and after you use the toilet or do any food preparation.

Even at home, you should cover your nose and mouth with your elbow when you sneeze or cough.

Remove Your Shoes

The debate is still raging regarding how long droplets of the virus can survive on different surfaces. It’s a good idea to keep one pair of shoes as outside shoes. Take them off before you step into your home, keeping anything on them outside your home.

If you don’t have a porch area, then take them off just inside the door. You don’t need to touch them unit you go out again.

Avoid Social Meetings

Where possible meet friends in the outdoor areas, such as the local park. This will give you the opportunity to chat and spend time with friends without risking bringing infection into your own home.

Cleaning Your Surfaces

There are still question marks regarding whether the virus can be carried on tins of food. The best idea when getting your shopping is to place all the bags in one spot. Carefully unpack everything and then empty each item into the relevant container. Avoid touching the storage containers while doing this.

You can then wash your hands, close the storage containers, and clean your surfaces. Ideally, clean with a soapy cloth and then go over again with a disinfectant spray. This will help to eliminate any virus that is lingering around.

Doing The Washing

Surprisingly many bedding items have traces of metal and plastic in them, the virus could exist on these items although it would have to get to your bed first!

To protect yourself wash your bedding once a week. Never shake the sheets before washing as you could disperse the virus into the air. If possible, avoid doing laundry away from your home.

Avoid Touching Your Hands And Face

This is critical in your home and out of it. The virus enters your body through your eyes, nose, or mouth. You can have it on your hands and not catch it providing you keep your hands away from your face.

Avoiding touching your face is critical to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
