5 Adventurous Peak Climbing in Nepal for Beginners 

1. Island Peak 

Until a few decades ago, Island Peak was forsaken for its off-the-beaten path and unforeseeable weather. But these days it’s become the favourite of all beginners following easy access and travel time. 

The sheer beauty of Island Peak needs no explanation as it always looks terrific. But trekkers definitely have to study the routes and plan the trek ahead of time. Although it’s less difficult compared to other climbing peaks, preparation is must for scaling rugged routes. 

Island Peak also known as Imja Tse rests above Khumbu valley in eastern Nepal. It lies at an elevation of 6189 meters and echoes an island in a sea of ice when glanced from Dingboche.

1. Fixed rope

For the beginners, use sturdy lines which can withstand force and absorb fluid. Although the size of rope depends on the length of pitch, having standard 60mm rope will fulfil the requirement most of the time. 

2. Crampons 

Crampons are used anywhere from climbing frozen waterfalls to snow slides, and ice-smeared rock. With that many usages, climbers must select the crampons carefully. Use durability and better traction as a basic parameter for choosing the gear. 

Stainless steel crampons are more preferred nowadays for its lightweight but there is no wrong having aluminium. Don’t miss the important part and check whether the size of crampons fits your mountaineering boots. 

3. Ice Axe 

Ice axe is the most basic tool while climbing glaciers and huge ice slabs. For this specific tool, trekkers must consider the length of axe, handle, and adze. It’s best to look for an axe with comfortable grip and classic straight shaft. In case you have a more steep terrain to ascend, use the one with a curved shaft. 

4. Carabiner

Metal loop constructed to open on a side, Carabiner is used in every mountain climb that has cliff faces and glaciers. From straight to wire gate, there are so many carabiners available in the market. Therefore, look out for the difference in them and know how they function. 

Instead design, consider the size, strength and gate type while choosing carabiners. 

Bent-gate carabiners are more fast and easy to clip the rope while the key lock provides a secure knot.
