Leave the elaborate 5-star meals to Wolfgang Puck. Camping means rest and relaxation, and this is no time to try to impress your friends with roasted game hen, asparagus sautéed in a light cream sauce, or whatever impressive dish you saw on last week’s Top Chef.

Think simple. Think easy. Think that it’s about time to lay under the huge shade tree with a good book. In other words, don’t fret over your camping menu. There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned grilled hot dog and baked beans to get your family through the afternoon. Check out these recipes below for simple and quick meals that your family will love. Besides, they won’t add more budget to your new RVs for sale.

  1. Grilled Peanut Butter And Jelly – this tried-and-true kid’s favorite takes on new meaning when it’s grilled over an open fire. You’ll only need four ingredients: a jar of peanut butter, jelly, bread, and butter. Instructions: Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich like you normally would. Pinch the sides together. Butter the outsides and place the sandwich in a pudding pie camping accessory and place it above the coals of your campfire for a minute before flipping to the other side. Let the smiles begin!
  2. Pizza Pies— English muffins, squeezable pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, and you’re ready to go. Using a pre-heated camp stove coated with oil, lightly grill the insides of the muffins. Turn them over and spread pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Wait until your cheese is ooey-gooey and your pizza is ready to serve.
  3. Sugar Biscuits – anything that has sugar in the name has to be good right? For this quick and easy snack, you’ll need a can of buttermilk biscuits, squeezable butter and a stick. Spray the stick with cooking oil first, then roll the biscuit out with your hands and wrap it around the stick end, making sure to form it to the stick so it doesn’t fall off. Heat the biscuit over the fire until it’s slightly brown. Take your snack off the stick and pour butter and jelly inside the biscuit. Sprinkle with butter and sugar. One word: Yummy!

4. Coffee Can Pork Chops – this main course is simple with 5 minutes prep time and 20 minutes cooking time. You’ll need thin boneless pork chops, red potatoes, baby carrots, onions and oil. Wash the veggies and coffee cans thoroughly. Put two pats of butter in the bottom of the can. Place pork chops in bottom of can and brown over fire. After browning, add in carrots, potatoes and onions. Two more pats of butter go into the can and cover with foil. Place can back in the coals for 20-30 minutes. Occasionally stir and enjoy!
