Kilts in a line

Kilts are a beautiful, yet unusual piece of clothing that not many would be comfortable wearing. However, if you do have to wear a kilt for some specific event or because of a family obligation, then you can rest assured in knowing that you would actually look good in a kilt, provided you buy the right one.

Buying the right kilt can depend on a number of factors, all of which we will be discussing today. Hopefully, this blog will help you in making your choice, whether you’re buying a kilt for the first time or revisiting the experience once again.

You have the option of just buying a kilt and wearing it with a top of your choice or go for the full outfit, complete with waistcoat, pouch, accessories, and jacket as well. You don’t need to buy the entire thing is you have a decent jacket, shirt, and tie to go with your kilt. A Prince Charlie jacket would be better suited to a kilt than a tuxedo jacket or conventional suit jacket.

This would also depend on the type of event you’re going to, which we will discuss more in detail later on below.

If you have the budget for it, nothing can beat the quality and finish of a tailored handmade kilt. Tailored kilts sit better on a person especially since they’re made according to the size and shape of the person wearing it. You’ll find numerous tailors in Scotland, Ireland, the United States, and even Canada, who will do a brilliant job in making you your very own kilt. However, not everyone can afford to spend on such a costly item.

Luckily, there are many clothing companies that have will have a kilt for sale in varying designs and colors. A decent off-the-rack kilt will cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 and you might even find some designs that are modern and unusual.

If you’re going to opt for a tailored kilt, then you need to be prepared to wait for a while. Tailors need anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks to make a quality and well-fitted kilt. The timeline could be less or more depending on what kind of design you go for and how ornate you want your kilt to be.

If time is of the essence, then you’ll be better off with an off-the-rack kilt and mix it up with some other pieces of clothing, as we discussed above.

Finally, you need to consider where you’ll be wearing the kilt. If your purpose of buying a kilt is for a costume or just a social event, then you can just buy an off-the-rack kilt and not spend an excessive amount of money.

However, if you need the kilt for a formal event, like a wedding, then tailored is the way to go. If not tailored, then you should consider buying an off-the-rack kilt from a reputable store that sells quality kilts.
