Pack Your Bags! What to Bring on a Ski Trip for Maximum Fun in the Snow

Were you one of the 19.8 million people tuned in to watch the last winter Olympics?

If so, you’re probably also one of the almost 20 million people now dreaming of hitting the slopes for your own refreshing ski adventure.

Unfortunately, sometimes the trickiest part about planning a ski vacation is knowing what to pack.

Not to worry, here’s a guide of what to bring on a ski trip so you can get the most enjoyment out of your next awesome vacation.

What to Bring on a Ski Trip

Creating your ski packing list may seem unnecessary for some, but for those who are novices or haven’t hit the slopes in some time, it may be harder to think of all the little essentials you don’t want to go without.

Basics in a Nutshell

We’ll make this super simple. When it comes to the actual skiing part of your ski trip, here are the basics:

  • Ski pants – waterproof
  • Winter hat & scarf
  • Goggles
  • Ski gloves – waterproof
  • Loooong socks -waterproof
  • Snow boots
  • Some kind of thermal underwear – waterproof
  • Lots of layers
    • Jackets
    • Hoodies
    • Long sleeve shirts
    • An extra pair of socks (Trust us on this one, socks are usually the first thing to get wet).
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks (Only use precious suitcase space on this item if you’re staying somewhere snacks and drinks are hard to purchase. Why waste space, right?)

The Unexpected Packing List

Ok, so these items are pretty standard–easy to remember, right? But what about the rest of your trip?

Surely you’re not going to spend every waking second in the snow. Too often, skiers remember all their ski gear but forget to pack for the downtime.

Here are other items to pack so your entire vacation is comfortable. This way, you can spend more time enjoying your stay instead of worrying whether you have everything you need.

  • Winter shoes/boots
  • Casual shirts
  • Jeans/long pants
  • Normal socks/winter socks
  • Dress clothes
  • A winter jacket (i.e. not your ski jacket)
  • Normal underwear
  • Devices: phones, cameras, chargers, laptops, etc.

To prepare well for a ski trip, keep in mind the various activities you’ll do at your resort, hotel, or lodge.

If you plan on spending several nights somewhere like the Whistler Blackcomb Lodging ski-in ski-out, you may not want to bring much more than basic necessities.

If you plan to spend your nights at a club or hotel bar, cocktail dresses or dress pants are a good idea. If you’re going to ski until you drop and plan to cozy up at night and watch Netflix, don’t forget the slippers.

You get the idea.

The list above will vary slightly depending on your trip itinerary but these items are good starters to get you thinking and planning ahead.
