Guys, you know I love DIY so I’m not discrediting the idea completely. Instead, I’m just suggesting that there are certain issues where you might be better off calling in an expert rather than attempting a fix yourself. This might be because the issue is tricky, dangerous, time-consuming or expensive. But, rather than looking at the vague reasons why you might DIY, it’s probably more useful to investigate some real home nightmares that need repairing and explain why you shouldn’t attempt it yourself. Let’s start with a personal pet peeve of mine, bugs, and beasties.

Don’t Deliberate, Exterminate!

You might think that you can handle a bug problem by yourself in the home without any expert help. After all, if you have ants creeping into your conservatory, all you need is a few traps. Put them anywhere that the little beasties are crawling in and you’ll quickly get rid of them. At least, that’s the idea, but you might find that the ants are reluctant to crawl in the traps. If that’s the case, you’ll probably find that there are enough crumbs scattered around the floor that they don’t need to look towards your specially laid out feast. So, if you do have a problem with bugs in the home, the first step might be giving it a clean. But what if the problem is slightly more serious.

Some bugs aren’t as easy to get rid of like termites. You can get DIY kits to remove termites from your home. The issue is that you might get all of them. They could be lurking in hidden areas of your house, and if you miss them, they’ll just continue to chomp through the wood. That’s why instead, you need to look at the pro services offered from a site like They’ll use specialist equipment to tackle your infestation and make sure that those bugs are gone for good.

3000 Gallons

Believe it or not, that’s how much water one leaking faucet in your home can waste. You can read more about this on Now, you can try and repair it yourself, but the benefit of getting a professional in is that they can check all your faucets and not just the one you have noticed. As such, by calling in a plumber, you could actually save yourself a lot of money in the long run.

There is also the chance that when fixing a simple problem like a leaking faucet you can make the issue a lot worse. How do you do this? Well, these days piping systems are often designed without DIY in mind. That means that you can break pieces of the pipe that you’re trying to take off and then you have to buy a new part rather than just cleaning it out.

Is It Supposed To Be Burning?

Finally, no matter what the reason it’s best not to play around with electric lines without a professional at least standing by. You may not be aware of this, but terrible electric work is one of the main causes of fires in the home. You can find more information on that at  So, you might think you can follow a guide on youtube to fix the electrics in your bathroom and stop the bulbs from flickering. But, if you make any mistakes, you might end up burning the house down, and that’s not an exaggeration.
