Travelling As A Couple

It’s finally that time of year again – vacation planning time! While you’re probably extremely excited to start planning your next getaway, if it’s your first time travelling with your partner you may be feeling a little daunted at the prospect of heading off to another country with your new beau in tow.

You probably have high expectations for what your first trip together as a couple should be like, but it’s important to be realistic about what you expect from your time away together. The truth is that if you put too much pressure on having a “perfect” break, the chances are that you won’t enjoy your time together, as you’ll be constantly focused on making sure that every aspect of your trip goes perfectly.

It is possible to have the most incredible first trip away with your partner, it’s just a case of being willing to let go and not “sweat the small stuff” and stop focusing on the need for perfection. Instead, you should take the time to plan a realistic trip that both you and your partner will love.

In need of a little inspiration? Check out the ideas below for planning the most amazing first trip away as a couple!

Be selective about where you head to

When it comes to choosing a destination to visit, it’s important that you select somewhere that you both want to visit. Perhaps you and your partner could sit down and each write a list of 10 countries that you would like to visit – if any of the same countries appear on both your lists, pick one of those to head to. You can do the same with cities too – once a country has been decided, sit down and each write a list of the places within that country that you would like to visit and see if any match. Once you’ve chosen a destination, double-check that it offers everything that both you and your partner want from a trip, before you make your booking.

Travel in style

It’s important that when it comes to how you travel, you put comfort first. Start by thinking about how you will get to the airport from your home – if it’s a long-distance perhaps you could split the driving? Remember, if you’re going to share the driving, you need to make sure that you’re both insured – using flexible 1 day car insurance can make this a lot easier and less stressful. You also need to think about whether to get a plane or a ferry and which is more budget-friendly and more convenient. Then, once you’ve arrived at your destination, you will also need transfers from and to the airport, as well as finding a way to get around once you’ve arrived at your accommodation. A great option, if one of you feels comfortable driving abroad, is to hire a car and use that for both your transfers and to sightsee.

Don’t set unrealistic standards

If you and your partner are going to have an enjoyable trip away together, it’s important that you don’t set unrealistic standards. Naturally, you will have preconceptions about what you would like your time away together to consist of, but it’s important that you don’t let these overtake the entire trip. Perfection is overrated – instead focus on having a memorable and enjoyable trip, spending some quality time together.
