Sundress – check. Sandals – check. Huge floppy sun hat – check. Glass of something cold and sparkling – check.
When we think of being ready for summer, the above is usually where we start. Updating our wardrobes, applying a healthy layer of fake tan and locating our favourite pair of sunglasses from last year – you can get up to the minute sunglasses and the latest styles from here – but with many of us opting for days and nights in the garden rather than spending a small fortune on a day out at a stylish wine bar and rooftop terrace, have you thought about getting your garden ready for summer fun?
Here you’ll find a super simple collection of ways you can totally transform your outdoor space into an area that’s perfect for relaxing and entertaining in, all summer long. Enjoy!
Light it up
In the summer months, we’re blessed with longer days and plenty of sunshine (hopefully), so lighting might not be the first thing that springs to mind. However, as light and magical as a summers evening might be, adding some lighting to your outdoor space will take it to the next level. I’m not talking security lamps or fancy wall sconces but adding little touches such as strings of fairy lights around your seating area, or even along the perimeter of your outdoor space will really create a summery atmosphere. Or, you could try solar light stakes planted amongst your flowerbeds and planters. And don’t underestimate the power of some pretty tea lights set into a gorgeous tealight holder or two. Simply, stunning.
Update your garden furniture
If you were smart you stored away your garden furniture for the winter months to protect it from the elements. However, if it’s looking a little worse for wear and in desperate need of some TLC then don’t despair. Have you considered upcycling it? For a fraction of the cost of a brand new set, you can totally transform your tired old furniture with a lick of paint! It’s a super simple way to add a pop of colour into your outdoor space too!
Add some comfort
If you’re going to have friends over for a BBQ or a little get together than they’re going to need somewhere to sit and relax. Adding some large outdoor cushions, a beanbag or two or even rolling out an old rug on the grass to sit on are some interesting touches. You could even fill a blanket box with shawls and blankets for your friends to use when the temperature starts to drop.
The only time you want your guests on their smart devices is when they’re tagging themselves and checking in to your amazing get together. So, add another element of fun with some garden games! A giant Jenga set, or even chess, croquet if you have the room, Skittles or anything else you think they might enjoy! Look after them and they can be used year on year!
