Jean Webster (1876 to 1916)
The writer and novelist, Alice Jane Webster, who used the pen name, Jean Webster, graduated from Fredonia. Some of her books include Dear Enemy and Daddy Long Legs. She entertained readers by using quick and humorous dialogue with a bit of biting commentary to enliven the stories.
Sean Ryan (1965)
Sean Ryan serves the 60th District in the New York State Senate. Previously, he was a member of the New York State Assembly. He served in this role from 2011 to 2021.
Mary Eileen McDonnell (1952)
U.S. actress, Mary Eileen McDonnell has received a Saturn Award and two Academy Award nominations. She also received nominations for two primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes
Peter Shukoff (1979)
American comedian, singer, and internet sensation, Peter Alexis Shukoff, is also known by his stage names Nice Peter or Blue socks.
Self-described as a “Comic/Guitar Hero,” he is best known for the humor on his YouTube channel, NicePeter.
Over 2.6 million people were subscribers to NicePeter on YouTube as of June 8, 2016.
As of February 2019, Nice Peter’s two channels, Epic Rap Battles (ERB) and Nice Peter, had a combined 17 million subscribers and 4 billion views.
Additionally, he has a third channel that he uses for vlogs and “Monday Shows,” a program that he uploads on Mondays or Tuesdays, which features a variety of parts like “Viewer Mail,” “Twitter Question Time,” and “Ask a Giraffe.”
Marcus Motier Drake (1835 to 1907)
When Grover Cleveland resigned from the post of Mayor of Buffalo, New York, Marcus Motier Drake assumed the role from November to December 1882.
Drake was born in DeRuyter, New York on September 7, 1835. When he turned two, his family relocated close to Fredonia, New York. In 1852, he earned his diploma from Fredonia Academy.
At Dunkirk, New York, he enlisted in the Union Army in August 1862 and joined the 72nd Regiment, New York Volunteers. His term came to an end in the spring of 1865. At that time, he was reassigned to the 120th Regiment, NY Volunteers.
After being transferred, he was given the rank of 1st Lieutenant and took command of Company H.
After the establishment of the Union Dry Dock Company in 1872, he was named Superintendent.
