Hawaii has remained a favorite vacation destination for millions of visitors from across the world. The romance of the island chain and its unparalleled natural beauty make it an island destination that is as close to paradise as one is likely to find anywhere in the world. There is simply so much to see. Vibrant cities, incredible marine life, plunging waterfalls and green valleys. Of course, the beaches are among the best in the world and the sunsets will simply take your breath away.

One of the islands in the Hawaiian archipelago that continues to see more and more tourists each year is Maui. Repeat visitors to this island with its stunning natural beauty are drawn by its unspoiled coastline, rainforests and beaches with sands that range from talcum white to the deepest ebony. For many travelers to Hawaii Maui remains No Ka Oi (The Best).

There is one thing that Maui has in common with the rest of the Hawaiian islands – and that is access to some of the freshest seafood on the planet. Restaurateurs on the island have taken full advantage of the bounty that the North Pacific Ocean has to offer. Those in search of that perfect seafood meal should head to the once quiet harbor town of Maalaea. It remains a laid-back destination – but now boasts attractions such as whale watching and other marine-based activities, as well as being home to Hawaii’s largest aquarium.

However, no visit to Maalaea would be complete without taking a seat at one (or more) of the fabulous seafood restaurants in the town. Here are some of the best.

1. The Seascape Maalaea Restaurant.

After a day spent exploring the wonders of the aquarium visit this wonderful seafood dining destination in the Maui Ocean Center. Here one is presented with fantastic views over the harbor and southern shore of the island – and some incredible seafood options. The Coconut Shrimp is incredible, and the cocktail menu is a varied exploration of island tastes.

2. Beach Bums BBQ & Grill.

Explore your inner beach bum at this laid-back seafood-focused dining destination. It’s open for breakfast lunch and supper – and the breakfast Bloody Mary is incredible. Lunch means enjoying the great ‘Blackened Fish Tacos’. The fresh fish (caught daily is also well worth enquiring about).

3. Tante’s Fishmarket.

This is a place for those who want an upscale dining experience and those magnificent views that are so much a part of the Maui experience. Diners can enjoy some fabulous sushi – but a hat tip must go to the great Poke bowls. The service is great and the greetings from the staff are served with a smile. Try the Catch of the Day (prepared in a variety of ways), which can vary from Swordfish to Wahoo and Mahi Mahi – it all depends on the fisherman’s luck. The Maalaea restaurant also has some great Filipino style dishes to choose from. However – the best choice might just be the ‘Hawaiian Lü’au Plate’ – pork, beef, salmon, Mahi Mahi and a whole lot more. The cocktail menu is also worth a second look.

4. The Paia Fish Market.

Within easy reach of the Maalaea, one finds the Paia Fish Market. This dining destination has built an enviable reputation for serving some of Maui’s freshest fish – all prepared with that dose of care and attention that really brings out the flavors of the ingredients. The casual atmosphere allows diners to get into the island frame of mind. No shoes – no problem. Try the ‘Blackened Opah’ which comes with a delicious macaroni salad. It’s not a pretentious dining venue – but that is half its charm. the other half is made up of great food – and fabulous, friendly service.

Visiting Maui is an opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Explore to your heart’s content – but make sure that exploration leads you to Maalaea – and some excellent seafood options.
