We all have items in our home that we never use or wear but are still holding onto. 1. Use the Marie Kondo Method
If you haven’t heard of Marie Kondo, you should definitely check out her Netflix show, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”. Kondo is the creator of the KonMari method of decluttering and organizing like a pro. She suggests you go room by room throughout your home and only keep the personal items that spark joy for you. 2. Hire a Company to Do it for You
Let’s be real, no one wants to get rid of all of their junk by themselves. It can be hard, tiring, and sweaty work. So, why not pay someone to do it for you? It can be very simple to hire a company and it’s definitely the least stressful option.
You still have to go through your home and decide what you want them to haul off for you, but it still makes de-cluttering your home much easier.
3. Repurpose Items You No Longer Use
If you are feeling crafty, you might want to repurpose some of the items you do not use anymore. Try reworking some of your clothing to be more on-trend, reupholster that old chair you don’t like anymore, or take some of that old junk and make it into a cool art project to display in your home.

4. Try to Give One Item Away Each Day
This method may take some of the stresses off of decluttering your entire home at once. Locate one item in your home each day that you could live without and give it away. You can re-gift this item or donate it to your local thrift store. This method can make you feel good about yourself and your home.
5. Try the Four-Box Method
This method will simplify the process of decluttering for you. Start out by grabbing four large bins or boxes. Label them trash, give-away, keep, or relocate. Go room by room, just like Marie Kondo, and sort every single item in the room into one of these boxes. The four-box method may be time-consuming, but it helps you visualize each item you own in a very simple way.
This might seem obvious, but before you start decluttering your home it helps to visualize what you want each room to look like. Visualizing the end result can help you decide what you need to get rid of and where everything else needs to go in the room. Try writing down a description of what you want the room to look like, some key adjectives that you want to describe the room, or even sketch out a picture of what you envision to keep your end goal in mind.
7. Utilize the Six-Second Rule
When deciding which items you should keep, the six-second rule is a very handy tool. Ask yourself: “Do I use this? Do I need this? Do I love this?” If you can’t answer yes to these questions in six seconds or less, it’s safe to say you can get rid of that item. The six-second rule can be used alongside any of the other decluttering methods to improve efficiency.
