When going away on holiday, it doesn’t always have to be a breakaway that involves you relaxing by the pool or beach, without having many plans that day (although sometimes this is just what you need). Instead, it could be a breakaway that involves you being active, trying something new and making memories through exploring – the best memories are always made when out and about. For example, you’ll never forget sky diving, but you may forget the cocktail you drank one evening by the pool.

Many countries offer a variety of fun holiday options that suit different interests and activity levels. For those who like to explore, a walking holiday may be of interest. For those who want to be active, a cycling trip could be on the agenda, or for those of you who love to be in the water, a watersports getaway could be perfect. Keep on reading to be inspired.

Walking holiday

If you are someone who enjoys being out on foot and exploring, then a hiking trip in Scotland (or any destination for that matter) may be something that will pique your interest. Hiking is a great way to stay active while seeing new sights. You’ll get to walk through beautiful landscapes, take in incredible views, and visit remote places that are only accessible on foot. Trips can be organised by difficulty level, which is ideal, as you may be new to hiking or someone who has a lot of experience.

Cycling trip

Cycling trips are perfect for seeing more of a country while keeping fit at the same time. You can hire a bike (or bring your own) and explore at your own pace, stopping whenever and wherever you like – whether it’s to admire the view, grab a coffee, or visit a local attraction. One of the best things about a cycling holiday is the flexibility it offers. You can ride through cities like London, or venture further out to discover peaceful countryside lanes, charming villages, and hidden gems away from the crowds.

Watersports getaway

Are you someone who likes to spend their holiday in the water? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of fun holidays which mostly involve you being active in some way, whilst getting wet. You could try kayaking the Norwegian Fjords, surfing in Portugal (or Bali if you want to travel further), windsurfing in Greece or Snorkelling in Malta. No matter your ability, most trips will cater to all levels, making it inclusive for both beginners and experienced guests.

Everyone should try a holiday which is a bit different to what they normally do every once in a while. Will you be trying one of the fun holiday ideas above? Is there a type of breakaway which you love to do that you think we should include in our guide? Have you been on a walking holiday, cycling trip or watersports getaway before?
