#### What is the GMAT Exams?

The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is a three-and-a-half-hour business school entrance exam. It involves four components including an essay and three sets of questions on reasoning.

The test is designed to assess the skills that are relevant to those needed during business school. Each of these tests compiles a number that results in the final test school. The scores run from 200 to 800 points. On average, testers receive a score of 556 points.

Analytical Writing Assessment

The test takers have to write an essay based on “Analysis of an Argument”. They have thirty minutes to complete the essay. This section is awarded between zero and six points.

Integrated Reasoning

The integrated reasoning section is comprised of 12 multi-part questions that involve multi-source reasoning, graphics interpretation, two-part analysis, and table analysis. This section takes thirty minutes. The questions for this section gets between one and eight points.

Quantitative Reasoning

The quantitative reasoning section includes 31 questions about data sufficiency and problem-solving. This section has 62 minutes to be completed. Points for this section are up to 60 points.

Verbal Reasoning

The verbal reasoning section consists of an additional 36 questions that focus on reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction. It allows for 65 minutes to complete. It is also for up to 60 points.

#### How Do You Prepare for the GMAT Exams?

It’s no secret that the GMAT test is hard. While it is important to score well to get into business school, the GMAT doesn’t completely define you as a potential student. Your experience in business, letters of recommendation from professors and colleagues, and entrance essays are also important.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take the GMAT seriously. Preparation is essential to scoring well on the exam. Test scores are completely based on the amount of time that you spend preparing. Those who spent 80 hours studying averaged between 600 and 650 on the exam. Those who spent up to 90 hours preparing were more likely to average more than 700 points.
