Luxury Watch Brand You May Never Heard Of

Last Updated on March 18, 2024

Rolex, Tag Heuer, Patek Philippe. These are all big names in the luxury watch industry. Players that have been in the game a long time and are still some of the most recognized watch brands around today. But, they aren’t the only ones out there.

One luxury watch brand you may never heard of (but is definitely worth a look-in) is Audemars Piguet.

Founded by Jules Louis Audemars and Edrwar Auguste Piguet over 100 years ago, in 1875, Audemars Piguet is a highly regarded Swiss luxury watch manufacturer. While the name may not ring as familiar as the likes of those mentioned above, during its time in existence so far, the company has achieved many great things.

Some of its most notable accolades include that of being the first in the world to create a minute-repeating movement for wristwatches in 1892; the first to release a luxury sport wristwatch in 1972 (the Royal Oak), and in 2019, was responsible for producing the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar.

In addition to designing and developing their own unique masterpieces, the company also created complex watch movements for other highly regarded manufacturers, such as Tiffany, to use. This was considered to be the company’s area of expertise as both Audemars and Piguet were previously watchmakers.

Famous Audemars Piguet Models

Certified Audemars Piguet watches are highly sought after. The company’s most famous (and possibly most popular) model wristwatch is that of the Royal Oak, originally released in 1972. This watch oozes class and sophistication and will compliment just about any attire. In addition to extremely good looks, the Royal Oak is also a model that showcases the finer, intricate workings of the watch through a technique known in the industry as skeletonizing.

Another of the company’s flagship models is that of the Millenary 4101.The Millenary collection was launched in 1995 and was done so in honor of the approaching Millenium. This watch is characterized by its off center dial and oval-shaped case. It also features Roman numerals that span out non-symmetrically. There are many popular variations of this watch including a special edition Audemars Piguet Millenary Quincy Jones model.

Notable Owners of Audemars Piguet Watches

There are plenty of big names that are all owners of Audemars Piguet watches. Jay-Z, one half of one of the music industry’s power couple’s, is a huge fan of this line and is very rarely seen not wearing one.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams was an official ambassador for the brand in 2014 and loves nothing more than to show off her Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph at every opportunity.

So, Why Are They Not As Well Known as Some of the Others?

For a long time, Audemars Piguet was happy to bask in all its glory secretly. The company was not loud and proud, shouting every achievement from the rooftops. But on the quiet, word got out anyway of how fantastic this brand was in terms of both quality and innovation.

And now, there’s no stopping it.

No longer will Audemars Piguet be lurking in the shadows. Now it’s fast emerging and well on its way to becoming one of the world’s most popular luxury watch manufacturers. So, if you haven’t already made your investment, now’s the time to act!
