From your sofa in your living room to sheets in your bedroom, out to simple glass coasters on your outdoor deck table, linens are at every part of your home. Choosing the correct linen to fit your needs can be stressful. You need the right knowledge, design perspective, and resources to create a look that will improve your home.

Proper research and consultation with experts can help you gain the right knowledge and design perspective. But, what if you do not have the money to purchase new items to improve the look of your home? Do not worry. We have the solution for you – your old linens. Yes, you read it right. Your old linens might be, well, old but they still can be reused into something that will upscale your home.

Here are five unique ways to improve your home with old linens.

Turn old coverlet into a sofa slipcover.

Instantly revamp your sofa through reusing your old coverlet as a slipcover. It will hide unwanted stains and fabric holes. Pick a pastel-colored or a patterned coverlet to make your living room chic and vibrant. You may also select an embroidered or fringed coverlet to give more character to your sofa.

You will need the following materials:

  • Old coverlet, preferably king-sized
  • Six large safety pins
  • A wooden spoon

How to do:

  1. Place your old coverlet into your sofa’s center point. Leave about three inches of the linen in front to allow you to secure the linen.
  2. Use the wooden spoon to secure the coverlet between the sofa cushions. A properly tucked slipcover is less likely to fall even when a person sits on the sofa.
  3. Fold back the excess linen on the front. Tuck and secure them with the large pins underneath the sofa.

Reuse your old quilt to make a headboard.

Your bedroom should be a place where you can relax and be yourself at the same time. Aromatherapy and weighted blankets can induce relaxation. Aromatherapy induces sleep through its smell, while a weighted blanket uses its heaviness to produce calmness.

Moving on, the things inside your room, including your bed, represent you. Now, if you feel like your bed to be a bit boring, your old but well-loved quilt could be your answer. Create a headboard of your style with your old quilt.

You will need the following materials:

  • Quilt
  • Plywood – ¾ inch thick, 4 feet tall and wideness depends on your bed size (for a twin-sized bed – 39 inches, for queen-size – 60 inches, and king-size – 76 inches)
  • Two pieces of 2 by 3 by 40-inches wood
  • Staple gun with ¼-inch staples
  • Drill
  • Four screws, preferably two-inched ones
  • Scissors

How to do:

  1. Open out your quilt on the floor. The right side should be facing down.
  2. Check if there is any damaged area on the quilt to hide it in the later process.
  3. Put the plywood on top of the quilt.
  4. Cut your linen but leave about four to five inches around the plywood panel.
  5. Use a staple gun to secure the linen to the plywood. Put the staple approximately three to four inches apart.
  6. For every two by three wood, drill two ½ inch deep holes about four and ten inches from the edge.
  7. Place the two by three wood about six inches from the end of the plywood and attach them using screws.
  8. Prop your finished project to the wall and push your bed towards it.

Create a shower curtain from your favorite beach towels.

You love the beach. But as much as you want to bask in its view every day, you need to get on with your daily tasks. Now, there is no other way to keep yourself reminded of the wonderful memories than to reuse your favorite beach towels.

You will need the following materials:

  • Two large-sized beach towels
  • 14 to 18 clip-on drapery rings, preferably made of stainless steel to prevent rusting

How to do:

  1. Attach the clip-on drapery rings, about three inches apart on one end of the beach towel.
  2.  Slip the curtain towel through the rings and place it back.

Utilize old linen napkins into glass coasters.

Table napkins receive all the food spills like coffee, pasta, soup, and many more. Sometimes, they get heavily stain that strong detergents cannot take them out. Save the good parts and utilize them back into the dinner table as glass coasters.

You will need the following materials:

  • Linen napkins
  • Felt, preferably in color complementary to your linen napkin
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Fabric glue
  • Pinking shears

How to do:

  1. Make 5 ½-inches square markings on the back of your linen napkins.
  2. Position your napkin on top of the felt. Ensure that your napkin is facing right-side down. Using your pinking shears, cut the linen into pieces following the square markings you made earlier.
  3. Apply fabric glue to the edge of each linen piece. Also, put some glue on the center to make it more secure.
  4. Turn the napkin right-side up and gently flatten the linen to the felt while following the glue lines.
  5. Let it sit for about twenty-four hours.
  6. Wash the coaster after a week and air-dry only.

Upgrade your seats through your old tablecloth.

Tablecloths often have colorful patterns and designs. But, as colorful as they may be, some stains cannot be fixed or hidden. If you are not yet ready to let go of your old tablecloth, you may repurpose it by turning it into a seat cover.

You will need the following materials:

  • Old tablecloth
  • Scissors
  • Screwdriver
  • Staple gun with ¼ -inch staples

How to do:

  1. Remove your seat cushion. Note: If your seat cushion is fixed, you may want to refer to the first project on slipcovers.
  2. Place the table cloth around the seat cushion and cut around the seat. Leave at least three to four inches of cloth on all sides.
  3. Wrap the fabric around the seat cushion and attach it through your staple gun. Place the staples at least an inch apart.
  4. Secure back the cushion on your seat.
