In so many homes the kitchen is the most used room. For a lot of people, it is the space where the family can come together to eat, cook and drink. Yet, like bathrooms, making updates or changes to the kitchen is often perceived to be too timely, expensive and plain old difficult to do. But that perception is quite simply wrong, and this article has a whole load of tips that can be easily enacted to give you a brand-new kitchen!

Wall Lights

The first thing to consider is your lighting. Just having ceiling lighting can create too severe an effect and lamps are hard to work into kitchens. The way to get around this issue is to add some wall lights to create more layered lighting. What style you go for is totally down to you, and there is an incredible range available as you, can see at lights.co.uk. Essentially, there is something for everyone and every kitchen could benefit from wall lights – plus, if you opt for LED lighting, it’s possible you could save up to 90% in power consumption.

From this site, my personal recommendation would be to get the Possio wall light with a concrete lampshade if you want a modern kitchen. It combines style and value at just £35.90. For a more traditional kitchen, perhaps consider the Rustic Nudos wall light, which is a great deal at just £79.90. There are many options you could go for, with ranges of LED, torch wall lights, picture lights, design-LED lights and more.

A Solid Focal Point

Next, you need to think about what you want the main focal point to be. Generally speaking, this should be the main wall, drawing the eye away from often cumbersome kitchen appliances and towards something more beautiful. And this is not at all difficult or expensive to do. Consider using one colour for the main wall and a different one for the rest of the kitchen. Bright colours can be intimidating, but it is so worth quelling your fear and using one to create a really unique kitchen.

Or, if you are artistically-inclined, you could paint an eye-catching picture on the wall, which will act as an amazing decoration as well as a great talking point. A slightly more expensive option is to curate a selection of framed pictures, paintings or photographs for a seriously striking effect. Again, if you can create your own art, this will obviously be cheaper.

An Indoor Forest

A slightly more off the wall (sorry) way of decorating a kitchen, is a Scandinavian idea called Skogluft. Essentially the idea is that you plant a wall of indoor flowers. This is a really neat idea for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it is easy and relatively inexpensive. On top of that, there are a number of health benefits to having your own little indoor forest. And, finally, it just looks incredible!

A New Table

The final thing you could do is buy a new kitchen table. That may sound really expensive, but can be done on a budget through auction websites and car boot sales.

Doing one of these steps will make your kitchen feel much fresher. Doing all of them will essentially give you a new kitchen altogether. Enjoy your fresh new space!
