While work is how we all make our living, there are many different ways of going about it. The concept of strict 9-5 has changed rapidly as companies look to attract a younger workforce that favors flexibility over long hours and a moderately higher salary.

What became known as “work-life balance” is a way to express the need to construct a life that finds the right balance for you personally while avoiding burnout. Rather than being something that only happens to older people, too much work on the same thing can cause burnout in anyone. By seeking a balance between work and personal pursuits, it’s possible to find that happy medium.

Here are four things you can do to achieve an improved work-life balance.

     1. Understand that Finding the Right Balance is a Personal Thing

While the work-life balance term is bandied out, it actually means different things to different people. It’s also affected by what phase you’re going in your life.

For instance, if you have a plan to pay for an extension to your house and you’re saving up, then taking on a second part-time job or adding overtime will contribute meaningfully towards your goal. Is your life out of balance at that time? We’d say no, as long as it doesn’t go to an extreme.

Therefore, the balance you seek is fluid depending on your the phase of life, your age, and your goals.

     2. Use Your Health as Your Guide

Without your health, you cannot maintain your commitments or fulfill your goals to your satisfaction. Health is often ignored until it’s too late. Don’t make that mistake.

Some moderate exercise 4-5 days a week can keep your heart healthy, manage times when your work is more stressful and assist you in losing weight. It tends to elevate your mood too.

If you’re feeling fatigued or you have other niggling health issues that you’re unsure about, stop putting off getting checked out. Catching small health issues early is better than leaving them until they’re painful and problematic. Be proactive.

     3. Get Some Downtime

Find pockets of time to be alone in your thoughts. Mediation is good to relax the body and mind. There are mediation apps that can help you get into a relaxed state.

Alternatively, if that’s not your sort of thing, try listening to nature soundtracks like rainstorms, waves crashing on the beach or bird calls.

Find what works for you.

     4. Find a More Productive Environment

If you’re a remote worker or freelancer, then you can choose your own office space. It’s always helpful to get out of the home to create a separate space for work. Balance is more easily achieved this way.

You can find a fully furnished office space for rent Bangkok that’s spacious and pleasant. Having access to reliable internet and other conveniences like places to eat nearby ensures you won’t lose productive time trying to get connected or when grabbing lunch.

Finding a balance between work and the rest of your life enables you to enjoy both that much more. Work doesn’t consume you and being able to enjoy your downtime reinvigorates you.
