Thinking of visiting the sunshine state, arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world? Who could blame you- blue oceans, white sandy beaches, amazing attractions, shops and dining it really is a dream place to be. When you’re planning your trip, here are some of the things you should absolutely consider doing!
Disney World
When you think of Florida, one of your first thoughts is probably Disneyworld Orlando. Hailed as one of the most magical places in the world, it’s well worth a visit even if you don’t intend on doing a full Disney trip. There are four Disney parks as well as two water parks to choose from, if you’re just doing the one day, then it’s worth doing your research to find out which will appeal to you most. Although to be honest, you won’t go far wrong with any of them! With exciting rides, shows, parades, and shops galore there’s entertainment for children and adults alike.
Non Disney Theme Parks
There are other theme parks in Orlando which aren’t by Disney but are equally as good! You could visit Universal Studios, SeaWorld or Discovery Cove to name a few. Gatorland and Legoland Florida are some of the slightly smaller parks but still well worth a visit. If you’re after a day of fun and excitement, gorgeous weather and incredible things to see and do then you’re in the right place.
International Drive
International drive is hailed as ‘the center of fun and excitement’ on your trip to Orlando. If you’re visiting any of the Orlando parks then taking a day out just to visit this incredible strip is definitely worthwhile. Shopping, dining, shows, nightlife- it really does have it all. You can visit attractions such as the Coca-Cola eye, Escapology (a real life escape game!) Madam Tussauds, Wonderworks interactive exhibits and so much more. There are loads of places to stay which are far cheaper than the Disney Resorts. You could stay on International Drive and explore everything it has to offer, then catch a handy connecting bus to the Disney parks on the day or days you want to visit.
Tampa Bay
A little outside of Orlando is the beautiful Tampa Bay. Here you can visit the world-famous Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, Florida Aquarium and Big Cat Rescue to see some of the world’s most fascinating creatures. There are museums, parks, shopping opportunities. If you’re visiting Orlando be sure to take a trip out to Tampa, it’s just a ninety-minute journey by bus, and there are so many things to explore.
The City of Naples
Another spot to pay a visit to on your trip to the Sunshine State should be the city of Naples. Here you have the wonderful Naples Botanical Gardens, here you can view gorgeous flora and see fascinating art exhibits. Currently, there’s an origami display created by artist Kevin Box. There’s also a zoo where you can feed gators, a boat ride and a wide variety of animals you can see. For a chilled out day at the beach where you can snorkel, swim or just relax visit Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. Situated right on the Gulf you get clear blue waters and incredible tropical weather. While Naples might seem a little out of the way of the ‘main’ Florida attractions, there are great transport links to get you around. The Naples to Orlando Shuttle by FloridaShuttleNow.com, for example, takes just over four hours, and you get the option between private travel or a cheaper shared option.
Miami Beach
Shopping, museums, attractions, parks- and of course the beach! Miami is a vibrant, exciting party destination where you can rub shoulders with A-listers and VIPs. There’s plenty to do in the day in Miami too which is suitable for all the family. You can cruise the ocean on a yacht or sunbathe on the white sandy beaches. Whether you want fun and excitement or relaxation, you will find it here.
Everglades National Park
Everglades National Park allows you to see landscape like no other. It’s a world heritage site and has been labeled as a point of interest by numerous ecological groups. You can go bird watching, biking, canoeing, fishing and so much more. You can camp under the stars, feel at one with nature and enjoy the spectacular scenery. There are tons of incredible national parks dotted all over the US, but in a state like Florida, they’re especially nice to visit because of the beautiful weather.

Key West
Want to see sharks, go snorkeling in coral reefs, observe wild dolphins or even swim with them? Key West certainly won’t disappoint. It’s at the southernmost point of continental USA and is a fantastic place to visit. For such a small place it’s jam-packed with things to do. You can stroll through Fort Zachary state park, check out Keywest boat rentals, visit the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center or the Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. All perfect for taking in Florida’s awesome flora and fauna. You can go shopping in Mallory Square, a waterfront plaza with shops and restaurants which provide a great place to watch the sunset. You can even see the famous author Ernest Hemingway’s house, as well as the six-toed cats that are thought to be descendants of his own pets!
Florida really is a spectacular place in the world. Gorgeous weather, friendly locals, incredible wildlife and more attractions than you could ever get through it’s no wonder so many flocks to the Sunshine State each year on vacation.
