Deep Cleaning home and nice living area

Messes have a way of building up. No matter how good we are at organizing and cleaning (or not), it’s hard to fight entropy. Sometimes we just have to do a deep cleaning. In many cultures around the world, deep cleaning happens in the springtime after spending lots of time indoors during the winter. Nowadays we don’t have to wait for a specific time to clean. Just do a deep cleaning when you feel the need for extra cleanliness in your home. Here is a list of some simple steps you can take to deep clean your house from top to bottom:

  1. Tidy Up: Remove any excess clutter. Don’t worry about anything you have hidden away, just take out the visual eyesores or things that you were already planning to get rid of or place in a different area. With less stuff to work around, cleaning will go a lot faster.
  2. Start Top To Bottom: Start with the tall surfaces first, such as ceiling trim, fans and light fixtures. Then move on to walls, baseboard, and trim. A handy tool for this would be a microfiber mop or duster. Use water to clean the higher surfaces, and then use warm water with dish soap. If you are in an area that has a lot of moisture, add a few drops of vinegar to remove any mold.
  3. Make Those Windows Shine: Nothing says “clean house” quite like sparkling windows. Start by vacuuming the sills and track. Then apply window cleaner to the windows themselves. Use either a squeegee or paper towels to remove the cleaner.
  4. Clean Window Treatments: Use the brush attachment on your vacuum to clean out the dust on blinds or shades. If your curtains are not too dirty, you can simply run them through the dryer for a few minutes to loosen any dust. For a more thorough cleaning, wash the curtains on their recommended setting, dry and iron them.
  5. Attack The Dust: Wipe all the hard wood surfaces such as shelves, tables, chairs, etc. with a petroleum distillate-free, beeswax-based wood cleaner. You can use a cloth rag, but a good old cotton sock can help you go really fast. Remove dust from lampshades with a lint cleaner.
  6. Clean The Floors: Save all your floors (and your back) by putting furniture gliders underneath your large furniture. Move the large furniture and clean previously hidden corners and baseboards with a vacuum crevice tool. If you have carpet floors, now is the time to break out a professional-grade cleaner. If you don’t have on on hand, you can rent one. For hardwood surfaces, clean with a microfiber mop and the recommended cleaner.
  7. Launder The Bedding: Wash bed skirts, blankets or duvet covers, pillows, sheets and shams. Put them on an extra spin cycle to make them extra dry and reduce time in the dryer. For down pillows, add tennis balls to prevent clumping in the dryer.
  8. Shake out rugs and mats: Take all of your rugs and mats and shake them outside. Find a place to hang them outside where they can get an extra dose of sunshine to kill any dust mites.

A good deep cleaning may take a lot of time and effort, but you don’t have to do it alone. Enlist the aid of family members or even friends who enjoy cleaning. Good luck!
