James Bond

Hotel de Paris. Monte Carlo

Two James Bond movies have been filmed in Monaco, the 1983 movie “Never Say Never Again,” and the 1995 Hollywood blockbuster “GoldenEye.” Both James Bond movies featured Monaco’s iconic Casino Monte Carlo, featuring its stunning Belle Epoque façade.

“Never Say Never,” starring Sean Connery, featured the Charity Ball, which was held in what the film called The Casino Royale Monte Carlo. The movie also included a thrilling bike chase, much of which was filmed throughout the streets of Monaco.

In the Monaco movie GoldenEye,” which starred actor Pierce Brosnan as Bond, he meets Xenia Onatopp inside the casino, beating her at a game of Baccarat. Other scenes were shot around Monaco’s Port Hercules, the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, and Fort Antoine in Monaco’s picturesque Old Town.

Ocean’s Twelve

The follow-up to the popular Ocean’s Eleven blockbuster, Ocean’s Twelve features a brief stop at Monaco’s Monte-Carlo Casino. Boasting an all-star line-up featuring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, and Bernie Mac, the 2004 film was also shot in Las Vegas, Chicago, Amsterdam, Sicily, Paris, and at George Clooney’s villa in Lake Como.

Iron Man 2

Based on the Marvel Comics star Iron Man, Iron Man 2 features several scenes that were filmed in Monaco, including the Place du Casino and the winding streets of La Condamine. Iron Man 2, which debuted in 2010, also features the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the principality’s most legendary events, which sees F1 drivers racing around the streets of Monaco.

Monte Carlo

This 2011 film tells the story of three young American students who find themselves whisked away to Monaco after being mistaken for a British heiress. Starring Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy, and Leighton Meester, the trio must pose as wealthy socialites and navigate their newfound luxury life in Monaco. This movie in Monaco features the famed Hotel De Paris, stunning drone footage of the principality, and the Monte Carlo Casino.

Grace of Monaco

This 2014 biographical drama tells the story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly, including her marriage to Monaco’s Prince Rainier II and her yearning to return to the big screen that she left behind for Monaco. Directed by Olivier Dahan, and starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly, the majority of Grace of Monaco was filmed in Italy and Menton. However, several scenes feature the principality, including iconic sites such as the Monte-Carlo Casino and the Rock of Monaco, home to Monaco’s Old Town and the Prince’s Palace.
