10-Year Anniversary

The couture lifestyle brand Alta Moda has hosted an annual event since its inception in 2012. It all started with 80 fashionable women in Taormina, Sicily. Now, Dolce & Gabbana can boast of 1,000 members in its ranks. For the 10th anniversary, they went back to their roots in Syracuse, Sicily.

The four-day event was held mainly on Ortigia Island. Attendees enjoyed a concert at an ancient Greek theater, dinner and dancing on the beach, fireworks and more. The main event, the Alta Moda show, was held in front of the Cathedral of Syracuse for dramatic effect.

Alta Moda

The focus of Alta Moda is Italian craftsmanship. Pieces are made-to-measure using time-honored tailoring techniques. Working from this solid base, Dolce & Gabbana explores themes of Italian heritage and style. For example, the latest show inspired by Sicilian widows was laden with religious iconography.

You can usually expect to see an excess of lace, trains and big sleeves on the Alta Moda runway. Garments are encrusted with jewels and pearls. Luxurious fabrics and textures are showcased with exquisite talent. The idea is that fashion should be art, and vice versa.

Alta Sartoria

In 2015, during the event in Portofino, a menswear line was introduced: Alta Sartoria. The line was all about fluidity, escaping from the typical narrow definition of menswear that exists elsewhere. Dolce & Gabbana made the point that people of all genders buying menswear, these days.

The 2022 Alta Sartoria show in Siciliy was inspired by a local Italian legend of sunken treasure and a damsel in distress. Therefore, many pieces were a deconstructed take on armor. Pieces included bejeweled corsets, harnesses, and voluminous blouses made of sheer fabrics.

Alta Gioielleria

Alta Gioielleria is the accompanying jewelry line in Dolce & Gabbana’s couture culture. As is to be expected, pieces are hand-forged by Italian artisans. They use techniques that date back to the Renaissance. For example, they use glass paste spinning to make stunning micro mosaics. There are very few left who know how to do this meticulous process. Much of the jewelry is crafted in workshops in Florence and Tuscany.

You may have guessed it already, but most pieces are big, bold and colorful. They can get heavy, with the heftiest weighing in at 40g. There are many gorgeous necklaces, headpieces and earrings to choose from. The latest collection was inspired by sunken treasures and recovered relics.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have truly outdone themselves with each Alta Moda line. Keep up with the latest work of Dolce & Gabbana to admire its enormous talent and find inspiration for yourself. They show no sign of stopping anytime soon. We can look forward to a spectacular showing of craftsmanship and drama for years to come.
