Going on vacation and want to keep up your workout routine? Good idea!

According to research, we should be working out between 3-5 days per week. This means you’ll need to figure out a way to get active while out of town.

Not to worry!

Check out these travel tips and tricks for those looking to stay in shape and achieve fitness on the go.

Walk Everywhere

One of the best options for staying fit and getting in some exercise while traveling is to walk whenever and wherever you can.

Depending on the reason for your trip; you’ll probably have a few other options for getting around and it won’t always be possible to select a walk instead. For example, if you’re in town for a wedding and there’s wedding transportation, you’ll want to opt-in on this option.

However, if it’s the question of taking a cab or walking somewhere, try the walk.

The luxury of travel is that you have time and can pick what you want to do and when. You’re only beholden to the schedule you create so build-out time in the day to walk to the places you want to check out.

According to the Mayo Clinic, we should be working toward a goal of walking 10,000 steps in a day. You’d be surprised to see how many steps you can accomplish on a vacation while you walk around seeing the sites, popping into restaurants and exploring the area.

Keep track of your steps on a FitBit or your phone. Give it a glance as the day goes to see how many steps you’ve walked.

Take a Site Seeing Jog

Pick a route beforehand and select an area or a neighborhood you may not get to visit or check out thoroughly on your trip.

Since running is a relatively intense form of cardio, you don’t have to spend too long doing it. Even a twenty-minute jog can keep your metabolism in check and leave you feeling like you really got in a workout.

The good news with this strategy is that then you’re done for the day! if you’re on a beach vacation, you can feel good about lounging the rest of the afternoon.

Make Your Hotel Room a Gym

If your hotel has a gym, you can take advantage of it but if it doesn’t, you have the option of making your room your own little fitness studio.

Pack some resistance bands and some gliding discs. These are two extremely lightweight pieces of workout equipment that won’t send your suitcase weight overboard.

Start with some burpees to get your heart rate pumping. Use the gliders for lunges and plank exercises and then incorporate the bands for arm strengthening.
