Here is all the information you need to know, in order to travel around the world without worrying.

Pick A Place

Wherever you want to go, it’s a good idea to look at the costs for things like the flights, hotels, activities, etc. Also look at the weather! Put together a chart so you can see at a glance which months look best. For example, to prepare for a 48-week trip through Central and South America, put together a chart listing the average temperature and average rainfall for each country you planned on visiting for each month of the year. Then plan out your route to give you the best chance of hitting great weather. You don’t want to visit the country of your dreams, only to discover it was the rainy season!

Book The Flight

Booking flights might seem easy, but there are options to consider, such as whether you should book a one-way, round-trip, or round-the-world ticket to get the most out of your money.

Buying a one-way ticket definitely gives you that freedom. Also, booking a return ticket is normally less expensive if booked in a foreign country.

Get Your Shots

At least three months before a big trip, you should visit a travel clinic to get the vaccinations you need. (Some of which may take three or four visits!) Another good idea is to visit your doctor and ask for a general antibiotic prescription in case you get any viruses while traveling.

Manage Your Post

A couple of months before your trip, go paperless for all your important mail. If you will not be returning to the same address, ask a friend or family member if you can temporarily use their address.

Passport And Visas

Be sure to get a passport as soon as possible. Passports are valid for 10 years, though some countries will not accept passports that will expire within a year.

Many countries require you to obtain a visa prior to entering the country. For help in retaining the right kind of visa, have a look at www.official-esta.com

Book A Hotel

While you probably want to book your accommodations well before you arrive, it’s sometimes easier to do the more complicated tasks first, leaving the easy things (like booking a hotel) until last.

The first two days in any new country are a transition period. For that time, book two nights at a nice hotel so you can acclimate, sleep, and determine your next plan of action. You don’t want to worry about changing money, communicating in a foreign language, or finding accommodations while you’re jet-lagged! So stretch your budget those first few days  – it’s worth it.

Money

Contact your bank and credit card companies to tell them the countries you plan to visit and ask about any possible fees for using your card in a foreign country. If there are some fees, then consider getting an international debit/credit card.
