Tick These Off Your Bucket List on Your Next Trip to Barcelona

As one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, Barcelona is a popular choice and a must-visit if you’re in the region. But with so much to do, it can be tough to know where to begin, and simply follow the well-trodden path of popular tourist attractions like La Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell. Whilst those are impressive and must be done, it’s sometimes good to go off of the beaten track and see what else the region has to offer. Below, we’ve put together a few activities that you should tick off your bucket list on your next Barcelona trip…

See a Concert at Palau de la Musica Catalana

The stunning Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall must be seen to be believed – it’s the only concert venue in its style to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. If you’re looking to immerse yourself into the local culture, a choral or classical music concert could be just what you’re looking for. Concerts are hosted virtually every day in the high season and tickets cost around €18,00, though you should book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Go on a Food Tour

If you’re anything like us, then you’ll consider food to be one of the most important elements when traveling overseas – and experiencing different cultures and foods can give you a real sense of adventure. Consider booking on to one of the many Barcelona food tours, which will allow you to discover some of the city’s many food markets, sample some local wine or go to the Born region, famous for authentic Catalonian food and drink. Our mouths are watering!

Spot Barcelona’s Supercomputer

For you tech geeks out there, you’ll be pleased to hear one of the largest supercomputers in Europe can be viewed in a disused chapel in Barcelona. The computer, called MareNostrum, is used to calculate complicated sums in research and astrophysics, and it’s a real sight to be seen. Access to the Centre Nacional de Supercomputació at the Torre Girona Building is by invitation only, although the Centre sometimes offers public viewings, so keep an eye out.

Experience the Soviet Bunker at Salvador Andreu House

Go back in time and spend an afternoon in a former Soviet bunker. Below the garden, you’ll find the bunker that was once used as an emergency refuge not only there to protect families but to act as a hub for diplomats to work during the bombing period. It has a kitchen, toilets, an electricity generator, and a thick iron door to protect those who fleed. It’s pretty scary, but it’s an experience and allows you to get a feel for the real Catalonia. One for the bucket list!

Spot the Las Ramblas Street Performers

The Las Ramblas Boulevard is one of Barcelona’s most iconic destinations and a must-visit on any trip, but if you want to make your day even more enjoyable, then make it your mission to spot the street performers on every corner. Human statues and famous figures can be found virtually every minute on a mile-long stretch, whilst street art and performers can also be found. Give them some of your loose change to support their craft, and you’ll be rewarded with some funny interactions – and perhaps a selfie or two if you’re lucky!

There you have it – just some of the attractions to tick off your bucket list on your next visit to Barcelona. Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and check back for more travel tips.
