Your home is your pride and joy, it’s where you bring up your family, entertain friends, and relax from the fast-paced life that you live, but there is one part of your home that rarely receives the same amount of attention as the rest: your garden.
We thoroughly clean and spruce up our homes in spring, and we should also do the same to our gardens. Here are improvements that you can make to your outdoor space to make it a safe place for you to enjoy when the warmer weather finally arrives.
Lighting
One way to improve your outdoor space is to use lighting solutions to enhance it. The warmer weather allows us to spend more time in our gardens, and by using additional lighting, you can extend the time that you spend outdoors. If you have an entertainment area, choose lighting options for task work such as cooking on the barbeque, but also softer lighting to help create a more relaxed atmosphere when dining out. Not only can nighttime aesthetics be enhanced, but your safety can be too. Install modern outdoor step lights so that you and your guests can safely navigate through the garden without risk of harm; select a contemporary design, so that your garden is just as stylish as the rest of your home.
Outdoor Furniture
Now is the time to check and clean your outdoor furniture and complete any maintenance that you identify needs to be done. Check nuts and bolts and retighten them where necessary. If you have wooden furniture, take it into the garage or a covered area and treat it. You may need to repaint it or re-oil it in preparation for the warmer times ahead. If you do need to repaint it, check out the different colored treatments that are available, and chose one that complements your home’s interiors to create a fluidity between inside and outside. Canvas chairs may benefit from being recovered or patched, too.
Terrace
If you have a terrace, you need to spend time assessing its condition. Sweep away any leaves or other debris that may have accumulated over winter, and check for damage to grouting in any paved areas. Cracks may have worsened over winter; the water gets into them, and when it freezes it expands and forces the cracks to widen, and they will need to be repaired.
Fencing
Before the plants truly start to grow, you need to check that your fencing has survived winter without incurring any damage. Use this time to ensure that your fencing is in good condition and, weather permitting, treat it. This is one of those tasks that needs to be done now, as soon you will be unable to spot any flaws, especially if your fence is likely to get covered by climbing plants that can hide any issues. The last thing you want is for pets or children to be able to leave your garden.
Your garden is an extension of the home, and you want it to be a safe space for your family to use. By spending time now maintaining and improving your outdoor space, you will be able to relax when the warmer weather arrives, and kick back and enjoy it.
