Don't Invite the Pests into Your Home

If you keep a tidy home and are diligent about keeping the clutter to a minimum, but you still see pests in your home, it may not be food that is attracting them. Pests are called pests for a reason. They will find a way to get into your home, and they can be hard to get rid of. By the time you spot them, it is already too late. Just one pest could indicate that there are many more hiding in your home. Sometimes the only way to get rid of pests once and for all is to get professional help such as Moxie Pest Control, but there are a few things that you should try first.

When the seasons change, and it gets warmer or cooler, you’ll find that it affects the way that pests act. You will probably notice more pests in the fall because it is getting cooler and they are trying to go where it is warmest, which is likely your home. You can purchase an inexpensive pest control spray from the local hardware store and spray around the perimeter of your home. It will help to keep out pests and will also kill any pests that come into contact with the substance. It is typically safe for use around children and pets, but be sure to double check the label.

You will want to check for any holes or cracks in your foundation or in the siding of your home and seal them up. That could be where pests are coming in. Look for holes or openings near your doors and windows and use caulking to seal them up. Again, this will also help to keep those utility bills low. Plus it will help to keep your home warmer and will help to keep your utility bills down. Pests and rodents love clutter so if you have piles of firewood or debris in your yard, or by the perimeter of your home, you will want to clear it away.

You should store firewood away from home and make sure that there is not an excessive amount of soil around the foundation of your home. Keep trees trimmed as well as any branches that are near your home. You can pick up an inexpensive pair of shears for smaller branches and get a small chainsaw for the bigger ones. Keep your garbage and recycling bins tightly sealed and keep them away from the house. If you have a compost, you will want to keep it away from your home, as well as sealed up.

Keep your kitchen clean, keep crumbs swept up and dishes washed. Always inspect the foundation of your home for nests, webs, and other signs that pests or insects may be setting up camp there. You can spray them with a pest control spray and be sure to keep long grass and weeds to a minimum. Be particularly diligent in keeping window wells clear of debris as well.

It is very important to keep pests and rodents out of your home because they can damage your home and your belongings. Termites, carpenter ants, and carpenter bees can do a significant amount of damage to your home and could end up costing you thousands of dollars. They can also carry diseases that will make you and your family members sick. Some insects are poisonous and even lethal.

Even if you are very diligent and keep a neat home, pests can still make their way into your residence. But if you are doing the things that you need to do to make your home uninhabitable for them you will have a much smaller problem to deal with. You cannot afford to be a hospitable host to pests or rodents. Mice will chew through pretty much any and everything. They will chew through wood, cloth, paper, and anything else that they will use to build their nests.

They will also burrow into furniture or even into the seats of your car and will even make a home in the insulation of your home. They can even cause a fire by chewing through the insulation around wires which exposes them and creates unsafe conditions, many conditions that you will not even know about right away.
