Yes… No

You are going to have a range of items in the closet currently. Some are likely doubled up on hangers, and others haven’t seen the light of day for years. Heave everything out on to your bedroom floor. If you have watched Marie Kondo, you know what is about to happen. Pick each item up and see how you feel about it or when the last time you wore it was. Have a yes and a no pile. By the end of the exercise, you probably have many more in the ‘no’ collection.

Donate

Rather than be tempted to take items back from the ‘no’ pile, head straight to your local donation center and drop your bags off. Everything that was good quality will now have a new lease of life.

Neaten Up

If you are looking at your closet and it is filled with broken or buckled coat hangers, then you need to do two things. You need to get rid of everything that is no longer serving its purpose. This is a do-over. Secondly, look for some clothes hangers that save closet space, so that you can make the space you are creating more aesthetically pleasing.

Habits

If you go shopping every Saturday and want to come home with a new outfit, you are going to have to try and kick that habit into touch. Sure, head out and go for a browse, but it is time to break that habit. Instead of buying things on the spot, put yourself on a 30-day timer. If you still want the item at the end of the 30 days, then go and check it out again. This is about getting comfortable with what you have and breaking the impulse buying habit.

Once you have tackled all of the steps above, the chances are you have a closet full of clothing that you actually wear and enjoy.
