5 Tricks You Can Try to Stay Cool During the Summer

Many people look forward to summer. The days are longer, pool parties take place and beach days are a must. You can wear shorts again without freezing. But sometimes the season brings almost unbearable heat. When temperatures start to soar, you may just start to crave the comfort of an air-conditioned room. That’s not the only option though. Here are five ways to ensure you stay as cool as possible during the warmest period of the year.

Get a fan

You may be tempted to fan yourself. This isn’t advisable since that repetitive motion can actually make you use energy and get even hotter. However, if your home or office doesn’t have AC, you don’t need to despair. You can get a hand-held fan for short-term personal cooling or look for one of the best quiet fans. Whether you need to focus on work or get some sleep, the sound won’t disturb you. If you need to cool a small room, opt for a tower fan as these tend to be quieter than many full-size oscillating models. If you just need a little cooling air as your work at your desk, a tabletop model will suffice.

Stay hydrated

You should have been drinking water all along, but you will need to increase your intake when you’re sweating more. Sipping water throughout the day will help to keep your temperature down. If you struggle to drink plain water, add a slice of fruit or vegetable even a sprig of your favorite herb. You can all eat foods with a high water content like watermelon and cucumber.

Wear cool clothing

Opt for lightweight, loose cotton or linen clothing in pale colors. This will help your skin to breathe and help deflect the sun’s rays.  If you need to exercise or play sports in the heat, try to wear garments with moisture-wicking technology.  These will help you to feel cooler instead of making you feel like you’re drowning in sweat.

Refrigerate your skin products

This may be an unusual tip, but it helps. A chilled moisturizer will both hydrate your skin and cool you down. The same goes for a refrigerated sheet mask. Chilled face products can also help revive skin that is sunburned or exposed to salt water or chlorine.  You really can’t go wrong here.

Sleep on a cooling pillow and cotton sheets

It can be hard to sleep when the nights are hot. While you may love your satin or silk sheets, they won’t be so comfy at this time of year. Use breathable cotton fabric instead. This ensures better ventilation. You can also go a step further and get a ventilated pillow with cooling gel foam. These may not be that well known but there are quite a few brands on the market.

Summer is great until it become too hot. Extreme temperatures can make it hard to work, exercise, or even sleep. You can do anything about the sun, but you can take steps to reduce its impact on you. Take advantage of the tips above and you’ll be on your way to feeling cooler.
