The Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a professional organization that acts independently intending to improve the service and repair of automobiles. ASE supports excellence in automotive repair, service, and parts distribution. It achieves its goals by providing a variety of automotive specialty certificates. Review and study with ASE test prep to prepare for the ASE certification exam.

The Automotive Service Excellence program has been around for over 20 years as part of a joint venture between automotive associations in Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Switzerland, and the United States. The goal of ASE certification is to raise the quality of automotive repair services and ensure that businesses are using safe and appropriate methods when working on vehicles. Automotive technicians can become ASE certified by completing specific training, continuing education requirements, and passing a certification exam.

ASE exam registration is available online, by phone, or through the mail. At the time of registration, examinees will select a local test center. After registering and paying your exam fee, ASE will provide an ASE Eligibility ID. Your eligibility ID is your “ticket” to all local test centers, and it allows you to select a study center once you are ready to take the test. Examinees must allow two weeks to process your eligibility ID. If you miss or come late for your appointment, the test will be marked as a No Show, and all payments will be lost.

ACT administers the examinations, given twice a year in over 700 centers. While there are numerous test centers around the country, test takers must pick one that gives their particular exam. Some centers may not offer all of the exams for a given year. Depending on availability, tests are given in the mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends.

All ASE exams are multiple-choice with 40-75 questions per exam. Exams might take anything between 30 minutes and two hours to complete. The exams are divided into automobiles, medium/heavy trucks, truck equipment, school buses, etc. ASE exams are available in different languages, such as English and Spanish, with both paper-based and computer-based tests.

A detailed score report is provided immediately after completing an ASE certification exam on a computer. Written test results are sent approximately 4 weeks after the ASE certification exam is completed. To pass the ASE test, you must correctly answer at least 70% of the questions. Candidates need to wait at least 30 days before buying and scheduling the same exam.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) provides four different levels of certification. The ASE entry-level certification, Professional technician certification, Master technician certification, and Advanced level specialist certification.

To keep their position in the field, candidates who pass the exam and are ASE Certified must repeat examinations every five years. As technology changes, so do the requirements necessary to get certified and stay certified. For example, when new technologies like hybrids hit the market, their service technicians had to be trained on them from scratch, even if they were already well-certified mechanics in other areas of expertise.

In the United States, the national average earnings for an ASE is $50,843. ASEs take pride in providing quality automotive service to our communities. As a career, ASEs provide peace of mind unlike any other, and their skills are highly demanded. ASE has certified over 1.2 million techs since its inception in 1972 and is a globally recognized standard for excellence in auto repair education, training, and certification.

As demand for qualified mechanics continues to grow, you can ensure that ASE certification will serve as a ticket to professional success. By becoming certified with ASE, you stand out from the competition and provide your customers with peace of mind knowing their vehicles are in top shape. When you become an ASE-certified tech, you join a worldwide network of certified professionals that share quality training and knowledge.
