Wedding planning can be stressful if you don’t know what you’re doing, so we’ve decided to create a short list of things to consider while you’re getting started. Or, if you’re already well on your way into the planning process, this might be helpful for making sure that some of the most important elements work well for the wedding you want.

Why do these pieces of the wedding planning puzzle matter so much? We’re here to break down a few of the reasons why certain parts can carry a more significant weight than the others.

Hire a Good Event Host

If you want to have an entertaining wedding and reception, hiring a good event host may be the key to having a great time. This is because an event host will specialize in making sure everyone feels engaged and excited, whether you want to have fun music for dancing, karaoke for laughing, or games to get your guests involved.

By hiring an event host with expertise in entertainment, you have the ability to take a little responsibility off of your plate. Instead of you and your new spouse needing to tend to everyone’s needs throughout your entire event, the event host can keep them busy and you can relax for a little while. That’s a fantastic feeling to have because your guests won’t be the only ones having fun: you’ll have a good time as well.

Get Great Tasting Catering

Especially if you’re friends with a lot of people who have dietary restrictions, you might want to figure out exactly what you’re going to be serving your guests as quickly as possible. And making sure that each person’s needs are met, as well as that the food actually tastes delicious, is going to determine whether some guests have a good time partying with you or not.

So make sure that you find food that meets all of your requirements. If you have a budget you’re restricted to, you may want to limit the amount of money you’re spending per guest. Or, depending on how informal you’re comfortable being, you can also go a slightly cheaper route and opt for a buffet-style lunch or dinner. This is your wedding, and you get to make the rules.

After all, who ever said you could only hire one catering company? If you love the appetizers from one organization and the deserts from the other, you may not have to choose between the two. Pick your favorites and make sure everything feels up to your standards before closing the book on catering.

Select a Venue You Love

The venue you choose for your wedding becomes the background for the entire event. The environment can dramatically affect the feelings elicited from you and your guests, as well as the comfort you feel and the look of the pictures you receive afterward. That’s a lot to consider, but it doesn’t need to be terribly difficult to find something you love.

If you’re set on finding an elegant and ornate place, that’s completely allowed. However, it’s a good idea to make sure that you don’t find a location that’s too large for your guest list or keeps you from feeling comfortable.

It might also be helpful to consider why you value the kind of background that you do. If you like the feeling a certain environment elicits from you, see if you can also find other decor pieces that give you the same emotional reaction and excitement. That may open up the possibility of other venue options that are closer to you, less expensive, or more personal to you.

Figure Out the Size of Your Guest List

When you’re organizing your guest list, make sure you start with the people you care about most. After this, include any other obligations you may want to include, like important family members or family friends who would likely want to be present on your big day. This is essential to do in this order because your happiness is the most important thing to accomplish.

After these two steps in your guest list, you can continue to expand until you are satisfied. However, during the planning process for your wedding, it’s a good idea to keep in mind how your guest list may fit in with your catering and venue plans. If your venue can only fit half of your invitees, you’ll likely need to pare down. By prioritizing the people who make you happy, you’ll make sure that the guests you care about the most are able to be present on your big day.

Keep Yourself Comfortable

This is less something you can check off of a list quickly and more of an idea that you should keep at the front of your mind while you’re organizing all of the details. Make sure that everything surrounding your big day makes you feel comfortable because you deserve to feel as much joy and relaxation as you possibly can. And we mean everything.

When you’re selecting clothing that you and the bridal party will wear, ensure you can walk around and stand for long periods of time without too much discomfort. Make sure that you can move around your venue comfortably and easily. The same can be said for your catering, as well as your overall budget.

Ultimately, your and your soon-to-be spouse’s happiness is the most important priority, and not the feelings or expectations of your friends or family. This is likely the most important thing to keep in mind during the entire wedding planning process. We wish you luck!
