Choose the Correct Nozzle Size and an Ideal Pressure Washer

When choosing your pressure washer, pay attention to the two most important details- GPM and PSI. Therefore, as per the experts, you should choose a pressure washer with a cleaning unit range of 1,900 to 2,800 if you want to wash a car. To calculate the cleaning unit, you need to multiply GPM with PSI. The recommended PSI ranges between 1200 and 1900, and the GPM should be between 1.4 and 1.6.

Besides GPM and PSI, another thing to consider is which type of pressure washer you are choosing- electric or gas-powered. Generally speaking, gas-powered pressure washers are considered more effective cleaners, but their high strength is not great for washing vehicles. Moreover, washing a car with a gas-powered pressure washer may damage the exterior surface of the car, which I am sure no car owner would like. Hence, to stay on the safe side, it will be better if you pick an electric pressure washer.

Coming to the nozzle, pick the green nozzle of 25-degree for the pre-wash rinse and the white nozzle of 40-degree for cleaning off the detergent. The car’s wheels can be easily cleaned with the green nozzle, and the white one is great for cleaning the surface. However, the red and yellow nozzles apply too much pressure and are not recommended for cleaning cars.

Park the Car in an Open Space, Deep Clean a Car

When planning to pressure wash your car, make sure you place it somewhere away from the crowd, be it people or other machines. Likewise, your pets or kids should not be roaming around because pressure washers can cause damage to living beings. Similarly, if there is some machine which can be damaged by water, please remove it from the cleaning space.

Rinse the Car

Now that you have the right cleaning tools and your car is parked in an open space, it’s time to start the rinsing process. Follow the steps below to rinse your car effectively:

  1. First, close the car’s windows completely so that no water goes inside. If the water goes inside, it can damage the interiors completely.
  2. Plug the machine into an electric source and attach the water outlet to the pressure washer.
  3. Move the cleaning wand 4 to 5 feet away from the vehicle and switch it on.
  4. Use the 25-degree nozzle for rinsing. While cleaning, ensure that you cover all the corners of the exterior surface, including the wheels.

I would recommend you move a little closer while cleaning the wheels so that you can get rid of mud, grime, and dirt easily.

Apply Detergent on the Car Surface

Choose a detergent that is made specifically for cleaning the car, dilute it with water and pour it into the detergent compartment of the pressure washer. The water to detergent ratio will be given in the user manual of the detergent; follow it properly. Before pressure washing with detergent, turn on the setting that pushes the water out of the detergent compartment.

If there is no special detergent compartment, you can also rinse the car with detergent using a cloth or a brush. Make sure you clean from up to down of the car. Once done, leave the detergent on the car surface for around five minutes.

Wash the Detergent from the Car Surface

Now use the 40-degree nozzle to rinse off the detergent from the car. Keep the cleaning wand at 45 degrees from the surface and move from top to down. After the detergent is rinsed off completely, use a soft towel or cloth to dry it.

Final Words

Once the cleaning is done, your car will look brand new! Cleaning your car with a pressure washer once in three months is great. But if you are short on time, cleaning it twice a year would also do; ensure you make it a habit and do not skip it. Trust me, power washing a car is super easy and quick.
