3 Things To Try If Your Relationship Is Struggling

It doesn’t make a difference if you are completely and totally in love with your partner; sometimes, relationships can struggle. Every relationship goes through rough patches, and it is down to the people involved in it as to how bad that rough patch gets and whether it spells the end of their relationship or just the beginning of a new phase.

Anything can cause problems in a relationship. It could be big life changes, trauma, chronic illness, or perhaps it’s just that you’ve been together for a long time, and things need to change. No matter what the reason, here are some things to try if your relationship is struggling.

Prioritize Intimacy

At the beginning of your relationship, it is likely that you were in bed together a lot, exploring one another and getting to know each other’s bodies and likes and dislikes when it comes to sex. However, over the years, changes in health, family, lifestyle, and even falling into habits when it comes to bedtime can mean that your sex life suffers.

The problem is that to have a healthy, loving relationship, sex should play a part, at least in most cases. If you have found your sex life waning, try to put it back on track. This might not be easy but try to carve out time together. Use toys and flavored lube if it means the excitement comes back. Do what you can to be with one another intimately again, and your relationship should improve.

Make Time For Each Other

If you want to put your relationship back on track, it’s crucial that you think about ways to make time for one another. Sometimes the reason that a relationship is struggling or even completely failing is that one or both parties just doesn’t make time to be with their partner because of work, hobbies, going out with friends, or just because they don’t know how anymore.

However, it is crucial to change your schedule, even if it’s only by a little bit, and allocate time to really be with your partner to talk, make love, make plans, or anything else. The more you can do this, the stronger your bond will be. It will show your loved ones how much you appreciate them and make them want to work harder at the relationship too. Trying having a date night once a month, or making sure you take half an hour at the end of the day to chat, for example.

Respect Each Other’s Differences

Sometimes a relationship will struggle because one or the other of the couple wants to try to change their partner. They want to make them into someone else. If you entered into a relationship with this as an end goal, then you will be disappointed; it’s unlikely you’ll be able to make those changes. Everyone is unique, and everyone should be allowed to be themselves. Wanting to change someone is not the basis of a good relationship.

In other words, rather than trying to make changes that are bad for everyone, if you want to help a struggling relationship, it’s far better to respect each other’s differences. Sometimes you will want to do separate things because you have separate interests, and that’s good – it’s even healthy. Come together at the end of the day and talk about what you did, but always allow each other to be yourselves.
