Build Your Confidence in the Gym

Going to the gym can feel quite daunting. There seems to be an unspoken rule where you have to be fit in order to fit in at the gym. The fear we all have is that we will wander into a room full of people with perfectly sculpted bodies who actually enjoy drinking seaweed smoothies.

But here’s the thing: you have just as much right to go to the gym and enjoy yourself as anyone else. In fact, it’s most likely that no-one will pay you the least bit of attention.

So what can you do to build your confidence up and get your fitness back on track at the same time?

Dress for Confidence

What you wear can have a real impact on how confident you feel. You would wear your best outfit for your first day at work or a first date with a love interest, the same goes for the gym. Wearing something that fits well, is comfortable to work in and makes you feel good is an important start. Plus, once you’ve invested in those clothes, you have to use them!

Gym clothes from Glow are a good recommendation for all these reasons. Their seamless leggings are really comfy to wear and come in a wide range of colors and patterns.

Plan Your Sessions

There’s no point in going to the gym and then either wandering around aimlessly or pushing yourself to do exercises you don’t enjoy. Obviously, you’re not going to feel good about yourself if you are struggling unnecessarily!

Getting the most out of your gym membership is about setting reasonable goals for yourself and having fun. So, if you love dancing, take a dance class! If you aren’t sure what you want to do, it’s a good idea to see a personal trainer, if only for a single session. They will be able to take you round the various machines and advise you on what to do to achieve your goals.

You should also plan a small reward at the end of your workout. Go and have a short swim or sit in the jacuzzi. The sauna and steam rooms are also great for your body and will help to relax you after your efforts.

Buddy Up

Working out with a buddy is a brilliant way to boost your confidence. Having a friend will help you feel more at home in the gym but they will also push you to do a bit more. Most activities are more fun with a friend and working out is no different! Plus, if you have a buddy, you won’t want to let them down so you’re more likely to have the willpower to go to the gym regularly. You’ll be accountable and have to go.

Though many people are anxious about going to the gym, there’s no need to worry. Everyone in the gym is focusing on what they are doing and won’t be interested in your activities at all. Once you’ve been a few times, you’ll stop feeling worried and get into the swing of things. So, go and get your trainers!
