Get Ready For Fall Home Maintenance Checklist: 4 Tasks to Take Care Of This Summer

It’s about that time of year again. Get out your pumpkins, carve a turkey, heat up the apple cider…and do maintenance on your home? When switching over from summer to fall there are many home tasks that you’ll need to do in order to prepare.

Nobody likes to think of all the tasks you have to do when switching seasons but if don’t do them you may be faced with an ugly brown lawn or a broken furnace.

Are you not sure where to start? Here is a complete fall home maintenance checklist for you to go by.

1. Clean Out Your Gutters

Once a season or so you should consider cleaning out your gutters. You can do this by using a spatula to scrape out any debris. If you need to, you can cut the spatula a little so you can reach every part of the gutter.

Once you’re done, wipe off the spatula and then put it away to use next time. That’s all there is to it.

2. Check Your Detectors

Fall is the time for you to break out your portable heaters and other comfort items that could, in fact, cause a fire. This is why it’s a good idea for you to check your fire and carbon monoxide detectors before dragging these things out.

Smoke detectors last for ten years and CO ones last for about 8 but you still want to look for the expiration dates and make sure the batteries are working anyway.

3. Water Your Lawn

The intense heat from the summer months can weaken your grass. By watering it in the fall you’ll strengthen it back up in time for the harsh winter. Many people chose to fertilize their lawn in the fall.

If you’re one of these people then you’re going to want to water it regardless so it’s able to soak into the ground and do its job.

4. Get Your Furnace Ready

The fall can get a little chilly so the last thing you want is for your furnace to go out.  If you take the necessary steps before fall begins though, you’ll be ready. Go ahead and call Titans Furnace Cleaning Ltd to do regular maintenance on it.

On top of regular maintenance, you’ll want to change the filter because chances are the one you used during the summer is covered in gunk. You should consider switching to a filter that’s pleated polyester. It will cost you more but it will last longer.

Lastly, dust out your HVAC system. Not only will this improve the air quality throughout your entire home but it will make it less likely to catch fire.
