How To Help Kids Learn French: 8 Pro Tips!

Nearly all kids are fluent in their native language at the age 5, but what if they are asked to learn a foreign language? Of course, it would be difficult for anyone to learn a new language, there are many other ways that help them. And, if it’s about learning a language like French, you need to work harder to make kids learn.

Further, you might associate the language learning process with textbooks and exams. However, there are a lot of interesting, catchy, and fun ways that will help kids develop skills and hold attention in the learning process. So, if you are wondering how to teach your kids learn French swiftly, here are a few things you must try:

Listening Comes First:

Long before you make kids read and write, kids learn to speak without thinking of how the word would sound when written; the same goes with French learning. However, most learning courses give listening least importance.

French words don’t sound the same when they are written, and guessing pronunciation will only make you sound like a novice. If you want your kids to learn and speak the language, make them listen to audios and let it go in their ears. Make them watch French movies, TV series and tell them to listen to French songs and more.

Work With Alphabets, Numbers, And Phrases:

While you can easily form any sound in the French alphabet using English sounds, not all alphabets are pronounced the same way. Some alphabets have different accents, which change the pronunciation in French.

Also, some alphabets easily get mixed with the English letters like J and G., For instance, A sound as ah, C as say, D as day, E as euh, and more. You can also introduce some fun counting games to make kids learn alphabets, numbers, and French phrases with ease.

Repetition Will Help:

The easiest way to make kids learn words is repetition. Make them speak over and over, and keep a check on what they learn. Kids should have a practice of listening to a sentence and repeating it hundreds of times to become fluent in French.

Don’t Follow Translation Methods:

When you are teaching, some translations are enough to make learning easier but don’t try it often as it will make your brain make mistakes when learning. Although both English and French have many words common, translating will confuse kids, and they will waste.

Self-Studying Is Not For Every Kid:

When it comes to learning the language, not every kid is the same. While some kids have an easier time in learning languages, some are not gifted with the same. If your kid needs someone to guide them throughout the learning and motivate them, help them.

Try Learning Through Visuals:

Link French vocabulary with the situations, images, but not to the English. For instance, when teaching them the meaning of ‘j’ ai froid,’ ask them to visualize that you are feeling cold instead of comparing with the English word ‘ I am cold.’ This would be wrong, as the French language doesn’t use ‘I am”, but use ‘I have.”

Don’t Rush On Learning Everything:

Don’t let your kids learn everything, as this would not be possible. Instead, prioritize things and let them focus on things that are actually important.

Make Learning A Family Activity:

Kids are, at best when they are in a learning environment. And for that, you need to involve your kids in the French-speaking area. Unless you are living in the French-speaking area, kids are indulged with the other language from their community. And their tendency will revert back to the language of comfort. So, avoid this situation and raise a bilingual kid who speaks French fluently.

Even if your child is resistant in learning a new language, the above strategies will help!
