To someone who has never heard about sound healing, the concept may seem unbelievable, even magical. However, sound healing therapy has been scrutinized by science and some studies show that it can greatly benefit people suffering from anxiety and depression.

The Science Behind Sound Healing

Back in 2016, a study was performed to uncover the benefits of sound healing. The study specifically looked at how singing bowl sound meditation affected mood, anxiety, and overall wellbeing. The study was supported and approved by the University of California and the San Diego Institutional Review Board.

The study involved testing the effects of sound healing on a group of 62 members, both men, and women. The average mean age of the group was 49.7 years. This group also included members who had previously undergone sound healing as well as people who were new to the therapy.

Participants were asked to report on their level of anxiety, tension, anger, depression, and fatigue both before and after the session.  Surprisingly, the group who were new to this form of therapy reported a significantly higher level of reduction in anxiety and depression post therapy. The study concluded that this form of sound therapy did, in fact, help individuals in reducing tension, especially if they are new to sound therapy.

A long list of diseases, some life-threatening, have been linked to stress and anxiety. These include cardiac conditions, diabetes, and several mental health problems. There is no denying that any new form of therapy should be viewed with a certain degree of healthy skepticism. Sound healing is no different. However, countless positive responses by participants suffering from anxiety and depression as well as the study prove that there may be some actual healing benefits.
