In life, we can feel hindered by a lack of money, but when we are after the life we want, is it really all about the money we think we need, or is it about something more? You may be trying to cut your expenses constantly, or you may think you’re living without “the essentials” for the benefit of the greater good, but if you want a better life, is it really all about money, or is it about something a bit more than that?

What Sort Of “Security” Defines You?

Living a life where we are going from pillar to post, apartment to apartment, and job to job can leave us with a lot of inconsistency. Some people thrive on this inability to stop, but is this something that you can do forever? We all have our own opinion of what security means, but if you are living an existence where you don’t stop for a second, is this going to be good for you in the long run? Because we can over-rely on money to provide a sense of security, we have to think about what sort of tangible things we can get security from. For example, if you feel like you’ve been living without money for so long, but now you want to get your finances in order, you may think about getting some cash advances so you can start with a nice chunk of money in the pot. From there, you can make an investment on property. Real estate is one of those investments that can anchor as in one place. So we have the stability that we can begin to build a life in this one place and settle on the idea of “home”.

Focus On A Good Job (But It Isn’t Everything)

We can place a lot of importance on the “perfect” career. Let’s get this out of the way, it doesn’t exist. Because we can think that the perfect job means everything else will fall into place, the reality of the situation is that it’s not about the job that you think you want, but it’s about fulfilling a need that’s inside you, namely to feel like you’ve done something good at the end of the day. We want to be challenged, but we don’t want to be overly stressed out by the challenges. It’s about getting the balance right. And this is why we can spend a long time looking for a job that we want rather than one we are good at. Sometimes we can fall into a career by accident, and it’s a perfect fit. But we also have to think about the fact that it’s not always about what we do between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, but what we do outside of work. While we can spend one-third of our lives working, the temptation is to make it “perfect”, but this perfectionism doesn’t help, but rather, we have to get over the fact that there is no such thing as a perfect job, because every role comes with a few duties that we don’t really want to do. Instead, we look at something that challenges us, makes us feel like we’ve accomplished something, and is somewhere that we don’t mind going to in the mornings. We’ve all had those days where we don’t want to get out of bed, but if they are few and far between, then we’re doing something right!

Do We Need All That Stuff?

A lot of people are embracing the minimalist approach to life. This isn’t just a way to cut back on those dreaded expenses, but it’s been proven to make people a lot happier. If we want a life of happiness, we’ve got to ask ourselves the question, does having all that stuff equate to a happy existence? If we’re looking for a more stable life, if we only earn a certain amount of money, but we desire all these products and clothes, we will always find ourselves in debt and chasing our tails. It’s important for us to set up some form of financial security, but we’ve also got to look at the areas of our life where we are spending too much money. We all have our vices, but we’ve got to justify if they are worth overspending on. We can argue that we need a certain amount of clothes so we have plenty of options, as has been shown time and again; by minimizing your efforts, it forces you to be more creative. It seems that people are happier when they are poorer, and even though it feels like it’s a drag at the time, we look back and realize that we were mentally more flexible. So, we can apply this to our existence even if we are financially better off. There are people out there that decide to live a simple life, despite the fact that they have loads of money in the bank. And while most people would look at that with an arched eyebrow, there’s a lot of common sense to be obtained from this. By living a simple life, it makes you look at things without a filter. It makes you assess what’s important. And when we are looking at setting up a life that’s secure, it’s not about having piles of money, but it’s about using it in the right way. After all, we don’t have to dine out in expensive restaurants all of the time, but rather, making these things a treat means that we’ll always appreciate them. Do we need stuff? At the end of the day, 80% of it will probably go in the trash!

It’s a wonderful thing to have an abundance of money, but we can place a lot of importance on it when it’s more about using the money for the right things. Whether it’s setting up a home for you, or about having that purpose in the right job, or sometimes, stopping and taking the opportunity to appreciate what’s around us, if we want the best life possible for us, we have to realize it’s not just about the finances.
