Top Tips to Help You Care for Your Lawn

Your lawn is the main feature within the garden, so its really important to take as much care of it as you can. Lawns are perfect for a number of different reasons, from throwing fabulous garden parties, to playing with the little ones. It can be a challenge when it comes to keeping on top of the condition of your lawn, as it’s often a large space and therefore time consuming. If you take proper care of your lawn and give it some TLC every few months, you’ll find it stays in better condition for a longer period of time.

Feed the Lawn

There are two times within the year when you should feed the lawn, as this will ensure it’s healthy and in good condition throughout. The best times to feed your lawn are early spring and autumn, so put a reminder in your calendar to remind you closer to the time. Feeding your lawn helps to kick-start the growing phase, giving your grass the strength to grow thick and healthy with a strong green colour. With the right feed, you can give your lawn the nutrients it requires to grow quickly, giving your garden a beautiful focal point from the beginning of summer, right through to the winter months.

Plenty of Water

Depending on the time of year, your lawn may be lacking when it comes to hydration. Just like us, your lawn needs constant water to help it stay healthy and strong, but when those warmer periods hit it can be difficult to give your lawn the right amount of water frequently. In this instance, you need to look at adding some form of water sprinkler to your garden, as this will help you consistently water your lawn without having to worry about it taking up lots of your time. Places like Bradshaws Direct stock a selection of water sprinklers, that are designed specifically to help maintain the quality of your lawn and bedded areas. When the wet weather finally arrives, you don’t have to worry about having your water sprinklers on every day, as it’s important not too over water the lawn and cause it to drown or become boggy.

Frequent Trimming

Your lawn requires frequent cutting no matter how big or small the area may be. Over a short period of time, the grass in your garden can grow quite high, which isn’t ideal for keeping it in good condition. The best thing to do is to try and cut your lawn every few weeks, especially throughout the summer period. With excess sunshine and spells of rain, your lawn will grow rapidly, so it’s important to keep an eye on the area and monitor how it’s progressing as the weeks go by. You want to ensure that your lawn has some length to it, however, as during the summer you’ll find that the grass retains water, which will help to keep it healthy when the rain holds off for a while.

Do Some Weeding

It’s no secret that weeds can have a very negative impact on the health of your lawn, so you want to try and do some weeding as frequently as possible. The moment you see some pesky weeds poking up through the lawn, its important to get out into the garden and pull them straight out. Leaving weeds to linger on your lawn can result in them spreading or killing patches of grass, which is not ideal. The sooner you get on top of your weed issue, the sooner you’ll be able to get rid of them and maintain your lawns healthy status.
