Let’s accept it girl’s- one of the most annoying things about cosmetic shopping is buying a new foundation. It sometimes becomes so daunting and stressful to find one shade that perfectly amalgamates with your skin. And, buying one that not just for you can make your skin look orange, white or perhaps ghostly and can mess up your entire look.

While it’s not as easy as just swapping the foundation at the back of your hand or holding it aside your face to see how it looks. Just some extra attention and you are up with the perfect color.  Here’s how you can choose the right foundation:

Know Your Skin Type:

Knowing your skin is one of the most important steps to pick the right foundation. You should understand what your skin needs.

  • If you have oily skin:  Try powdered foundation or an oil-free one, as they contain powders that absorb oil, thereby giving you a smooth and matte look. You can also pick mineral foundation as they go perfectly with the oily skin, allowing dry particles easily absorb moisture.
  • Dry skin: Look for a hydrating foundation or a liquid one, if you have dry skin. These foundations come with a creamy consistency to provide enough moisturizer to the skin. Also, liquid foundations give complete coverage to the skin, making it look like another layer.
  • Combination skin: If you have oily skin at one place and dry in others, you have combination skin. For such skin, try mixing other foundations to pick yours. Also, avoid using ones that are packed with oil-content or emollient.
  • Sensitive Skin: If your skin is acne-prone and is quite sensitive, it would be best to avoid foundations with certain specific ingredients. Don’t look for the one that comes with alcohol, mineral oil, fragrance, and talc.

Pick Your Color:

Once you are done understanding your skin, the next thing you need to do is to pick the right color that matches your skin. To check if the foundation is for your skin, do a patch test on your neck and jawline.

The shade that matches your skin will perfectly blend into your skin and will not make it look ghastly or ashy. If you are feeling darker than your normal skin or have a whitish cast on the skin, it means the color is not for you.

Also, professionals don’t fear of mixing two shades as your skin tone will vary through various different areas of the face. So, mix ‘n’ match the shades to find yours.

Know Your Undertone:

Have a close look to your bare skin to look how yellow or rosy (pink) understand your skin feels. Golden shine means you have a warm undertone. However, if you incline toward the rosy side, you have a cool undertone. And the combination of the two means, you have a neutral undertone.

Another way you can identify your undertone is to look at the color of your veins. The deep purple or bluish color means you have a cool spectrum and the greenish ones mean your undertone is warm.

Don’t Forget To Look At The Finish:

A finish of the foundation means the sheen that the product left on your skin. Look for the dewy, matte, luminizing, semi-matte finishes to decide which one perfectly suit your skin.

How To Apply Foundation Flawlessly:

  • Moisturize Your Skin: Before applying primer, apply moisturizer, as it will improve the clarity of the skin, making it brighter and radiant.
  • Prep Your Skin- Use Primer: Moisturizer is not just enough to prep your skin; you need a primer to make it smoothen out any flaws. Also, primers give a perfect hold to the foundations which ensure a longer stay of foundations.
  • Conceal The Right Areas Of The Skin: If you think concealers are only to cover blemishes and patches of the skin, you perhaps are overlooking its usage. You can also use it to brighten certain specific areas of the face. Just keep in mind to use a concealer that is lighter than your regular foundation.

So, those were the most common things you need to know about foundations. Keep them in mind and get flawless skin.
