Keep Your Carpets Clean

A clean carpet can go a long way towards keeping a clean home and ensuring it’s presented well. Here are some tips to achieve this.

  1. Make it a habit of removing loose dirt regularly

Vacuuming the carpet to get rid of any loose dirt before it firmly attaches to the carpet fibers can help keep it cleaner for longer. Leaving the loose soil to be trodden up will only make it harder to remove, and possibly more expensive for you. That said, it would be advisable to run the vacuum cleaner regularly and especially in high traffic areas. This should reduce the risk of the dirt becoming dense or hardening within the carpet fibers.

You might also want to keep the filters clean, and empty the vacuum cleaner often as well. It is when the vacuum cleaner is at its best that it can extract even the finest dust from the fibers without throwing them around.  Invest in walk-off mats to reduce the amount of dirt brought into the house. Water-absorbent and coarse-textured mats are recommended here.

  1. DIY Steam Cleaning

It would be advisable to have your carpets cleaned by a professional cleaner at least once per year.  You also could use a steam cleaner to help keep the carpet clean before the scheduled ‘professional’ clean. You could either invest in or hire a steam cleaner to clean the carpets. Although carpet steam cleaners are nothing compared to the professional equipment used by carpet cleaning London companies, they sure do the job well.  Renting out a steam cleaner is a cost-effective way to keep your carpets clean. Just be sure to hire one in the afternoon to save a few bucks. Some stores will offer a discount if you rent it out in the afternoon.

3 Indoor Shoes

Wearing indoor shoes can really help ensure that you keep your carpet clean and neat. By changing your shoes to something comfortable at the door, you leave the outdoors outside largely and manage to keep your carpet clean. Additionally, if you choose something like these Bearpaw slippers you can be certain to keep things neat.

  1. Remove stains as they happen

Although you may know this already, it would be advisable to tackle stains as soon as they happen, and before they can dry up. Just be sure to use the correct procedure/method to remove each specific stain. The internet is your friend at this point, do a quick check online on how to do it, then get to it.

Pure water is enough to get rid of 80% of all known fresh stains. All you might need to do is use a damp cloth to blot the stain out.  Blot out repeatedly until the stain is all gone. You, however, should refrain from scrubbing or rubbing the stain, as doing so will only damage the carpet fibers.

Blotting will help stop the stain from staining, if not remove most of it.  You can also turn to white vinegar and water solution (or club soda) if water doesn’t seem to have an effect on the stain. It is only after an unsuccessful attempt with the white vinegar solution that you can use commercial stain removers on the stain. Be sure to read the guidelines and use test the product first before using it on your carpet. Some commercial cleaners may be too harsh to the carpet fibers, damaging it all together.
